Surgery tomorrow and very nervous
I meant to post this a few days ago but have not been able to find the time. Tomorrow Michael goes in for his "boy" surgery. I know it is considered minor surgery, but I am still very nervous especially because he has to be put under for it. Today I had to take him to the doctor for the pre surgery exam and he freaked out and they didn't even do anything other than look in his ears, etc. He hates the doctor so I know he is going to be a mess. I just hope Mommy doesn't freak out also. Please keep us in your prayers tomorrow.
Thanks. Lisa

Good luck to the little guy
I presume by "boy surgery" you mean circumcision? How old is he? How did you decide to have this done given his age? Many of my friends now are deciding not to have their boys done at all. I'll be honest, I'm not up on the pros and cons ... just wondering though. If I adopt a boy when the time comes for me to finally adopt, I'll be faced with this as well. Anyhow, good luck again -- I hope it goes well for everyone involved!!

Hi Fugie, I wanted to let you know, I know EXACTLY how you are feeling. Two weeks ago, my son had this same "boy" operation you speak of. I was a basket case as well. I even had a horrible dream the night before. I sat in his hospital room pacing the floor back and forth anxiously waiting to hear about how he did and if he was alive. Just like you, the part that freaked me out the most was that he was being put under. I don't know how much the doctors told you, but for mine, they gave him a "loopy" drug before they took him, so he wouldn't remember being taking. Then an antibiotic to ward off infection, that took half an hour. Then they gave him the anestesia(sp) and then an IV. The surgery itself lasted 40 minutes. He was gone for 2 hours though. The last part was making sure he woke up after the surgery. Then they brought him back to me. We waited half an hour to make sure his vitals were good and home we went. They prescribed him liquid Tylenol 3 and gave me care instructions. For the first day he was lazy and sleepy. The second day, still a bit lazy. By the third day he was running around as if it didn't happen at all. He just went in for his post-op yesterday and healed completely. I will keep you in my prayers. Try not to worry, he will be just fine!! HUGSS! |

Both of you are in my prayers right now!
Try to be calm and brave, for him, Mom. (As DD used to say, "Hardo", as in, "Hard to do.") Know this must be hard for you. Blessings. ![]() |

Good luck, I am sure everything will be fine. Our little guy did well, he required the circ, some fixing of other issues down there including scar tissue and he got ear tubes at the same time! I was a mess. I joked with the nurse that they should give the same "giggle juice" they give to the kids to the parents!
The first two days with diaper changes were rough but then after that he was fine, the hardest part was keeping him off the straddle toys for 2 weeks!

Thanks everyone!! We are home and Michael did great!! He was such a trooper and it went just as explained. I thought he would freak out before the surgery and not a peep. Go figure. The nurses even commented that he was so happy he probably didn't need the happy juice. But he got it anyways. He is still a little groggy but has eaten and is playing in his high chair with a new toy we bought him yesterday for the occasion. He is still numb and can't feel anything, so right now he is fine. I am sure tomorrow will be a little harder, but I am just glad it is over. Thanks again for all your thoughts.
