The light at the end of the tunnel

In 1997, tonight, we were standing in the American Embassy in Moscow, obtaining DD's visa.

Halloween has sort of been "OUR" holiday. Our dear neighbors had our whole house decorated for Halloween when we got home, after a long, hard haul.

We did not do Halloween 'til K was 3 -- and she'd decided that she'd be Peter Pan (she LOVED the old, Mary Martin Peter Pan) -- I (with no talent) --created a really cool home-made outfit--

Now we go all out -- (thanks, in part, to my family) -- the giant blow-up pumpkin, the crawling hand, the moving rat, the lights (blinking eyeballs), everything. (And we loved everything).

We are blessed with great neighbors, who do it up right as well. Our neighborhood is very diverse, and the love and respect is just amazing.

Tonight was just lovely. My child, and all the neighborhood kids, had a blast!

And tonight, my kiddo was brave and strong and cool and led some other kids....

DD is now 5'2'' and 95 lbs and (first 6th grade report card) got A's in math, science, social studies and computer science -- B's in Language Arts and Spanish. She's also featured in her local dance ensemble, which sends kids on to ABT and London.

So, to all of you who are having your very first Happy Halloween, congratulations! To all of you who are waiting, YOUR TURN WILL COME, and boy will you have fun, fun, fun. And guess what? It keeps coming -- DD's 9th Halloween is just as heart-rending as the first.

To those waiting -- there's a light. To those who know, congrats!
