Referral - to Kirov we go!

The ring chant we had a week or so ago just took a little bit to reach us here in Florida! We got the call and we are going to visit a baby boy in Kirov. We should be going early December.

We're going blind with no medical (obviously). Did anyone bring a doctor with them to the region? We have a list of doctors, and we are thinking about doing this, but just wanted to know if it was worth it. Do you remember how much they cost? I will certainly consult an IA doc here at home too. Just wondering if the doctor in Russia is necessary.

Congratulations on your referral! I loved going to Kirov. Have you joined the Yahoo group for Kirov families yet? If you read through back posts you will get a lot of great info. Also, there was a family on their trip 1 (our trip 2) that took a doctor with them from the American Clinic in Moscow.

We got home with our 4 year old boy on February 24th from the Kirov Region. Our Trip 1 was last December 05, and then Trip 2 was Feb 9th of this year.

We went to the orphanage in Kotelenich.

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy ........ oh by the way, the one Hotel has a two lane bowling alley and a good retaurant. I know they have hockey in Florida, but in Kirov their "NHL" team plays outside. Kirov is a fun little city.

We enjoyed the train ride ...... best night sleep I had in a while - rocked me right to bed.

We would be happy to send you some photo's or what have you ........ PM if you are interested.

How exciting! What a great Christmas gift! (we all needed something to be excited about after this FSU season!! haha).

Even though we did not intend on having a "blind" referral it ended up that way because we lost the referral we were going to meet. But I cannot tell you ENOUGH how FANTASTIC our IA doc was (at Texas Childrens..I can get you the info if you want it). You may already remember what happened with us...but we got the referral of our little Hannah and went and met her. I actually had to meet with the orphanage director, jot down all the med info, go back to the hotel and call our IA doc. They had one on call 24hrs a day for people traveling so she came immediately to the phone. I sent her the pics and med info, and she called us back on the hotel within 10 minutes with her opinion of Hannah's health. I could not have even imagined better service!
For us, it would not have made a difference if we had a MD with us...basically, it is not hard to see if a child "looks" sick. Also, with the IA doc, we got TONS of paperwork re: milestones, charts etc etc to test her. Also they charge a one time fee for as many referrals as you need evaled..so that if for some reason this child is not healthy enough for you, you will not be paying a big fat fee over and over. Hope that doesn't happen though...I hope this is THE ONE!!!!!!!!
PM me if you want/need any more info!
GOOD LUCK!
