Kyrgyzstan??
Our agency has offered us an opportunity to switch from Russia to Kyrgyzstan and I'm trying to do some research into that country. Is there anyone out there familiar with the adoption procedures in Kyrgyzstan who would be able to share their experience? Feel free to PM me or post online.
Thanks |

I thought she went to Kazakstahn....or however you spell it???
I admit I have horrible geography outside North America and Europe. Is Kyrgyzstan a region in Russia or it's own country? If it is it's own, do they have different requirements for adoption?

Kaz vs Kyrg
I went to Kyrgyzstan - however you have to be processed out through Kaz, so I did go there as well!
Kyrg is it's own counrty, a former Soviet republic independent since 1991, south of Kaz. It has it's own very new adoption laws and process. Relatively easy and quick! |

ahhha! I saw a post where you said Kaz...now it all makes sense
How did you find an agency that went to Krygyzstan? Was it one you were using to go to Russia and they asked if you were willing to go there instead? Thanks

Yes, Pequele that's exactly what happened - I was like, Kyrgyzstan? OK, sure - where is it???
I am so happy with my decision, my little girl - all 6 kids, in fact, that came home from her same orphanage in the last 2 months - are healthy and adorable. I highly recommend anybody looking into it as an alternative - you can get very young children as well. |

adopting from Kyrgyzstan
We are adopting an 8-month old boy from Kyrgyzstan. (Hi Melanie!
) There is a fairly active group on yahoo: kyrgystanadoptiongroup : Kyrgystan Adoption.Just a brief blip: The adoptions are all "new" under revised laws from earlier this year, so there may be some unexpected surprises in store. That said, babies & older kids are available. The total timeline is under a year and only 2-4 months from dossier submission to completion. Some agencies do "traditional referrals" and others have waiting kids. Right now there is either a one trip or two trip option, depending on the agency & type of adoption. Trips are relatively short compared to other central Asian or Eastern European countries. Hope that helps!
