hs errors?
How important is it that the hs be word-perfect? Mine contains errors. Some are grammatical, some are words left out, one is a misspelling of my parents' name...
I feel like the name needs to be changed, but am wondering about the others. Has anyone had details challenged on their hs? Thanks, Kate

I don't know about the Home Study as I didn't see mine until I was in Russia but I can tell you that it is best to get all T's crossed and I's dotted. It has been known that the little things not noticed or ignored end up being a big issue just when you can do without it!!
My "thing" in particular was my place of birth. Some papers referred to me being born in my "village" and some papers referred to being born in my "town". The Judge was not impressed (at this point Kate, i have to point out my Judge was not impressed with anything and my court appearance was a gruelling 3 hour session). GOOD LUCK.

there is no way to predict if this will be an issue. it really all depends on your judge i think.
now is the time to get it corrected, while you are not under the pressure of a looming court date.

I would get the errors fixed, especially the obvious ones. I also recommend getting the draft reviewed by your agency for any changes they think need to be made. My agency asked for a sentence or two to be modified slightly, (not changing the meaning) but in a way that they felt would be readily understood in the Russian court system.
Just a thought. Good Luck today with your meeting.

When we got our homestudy done our SW asked us to review it for errors and let her know. She said that she does so many of them that grammar errors could happen. We didn't have any, but I thought of it like having someone proof read your papers in college. She thought it was important enough to ask, and I would rather have our i's dotted and t's crossed so I would get them fixed.
Good luck, -Jo |

I agree with the others. Fix any errors now...just in case.
I was surprised by how many grammatical and spelling errors the first draft of our hs included (and I love our social worker). I also second the suggestion to send the draft to your agency for review to make sure it addresses everything they think needs to be in there. Best of luck!

Our street number was incorrect on our HS, but our agency said not to worry about it. It never came up as a problem for us.

I would also get the errors fixed now, alot easier to do know then in a panic if it becomes an issue.
For our HS' we have received an email copy to check over and look for any corrections or things we wanted changed and then send it back, then the final copy is done. Best wishes!

Fixed
Definitely get the errors fixed. Judges can be very picky. My social worker was wonderful but in both my adoptions she had errors on the homestudy drafts. She sent me the drafts and I corrected the errors in an hour. No big deal.

We had a few words that needed to be fix. Our case worker emailed the hs to us we emailed back our changes. They do go over this in court, at least our judge did, so I would make everything perfect.
Oh by the way, they pretty much read, out loud, the whole document (Entire Home study) in court. Stated everything. Family names, relatives, religion, employers, everything. At the end we felt pretty good about ourselves. Last edited by Max'sMommy : 08-08-2006 at 11:38 AM. |

Definitely get it fixed! We had our address listed at XX XX Ct. on some document, and just XX XX on another. They questioned why there was no "Ct." on the one document. I said there just wasn't enough room on the line so I left it off. I also explained that it was not necessary with our mailing system.
Well, you guessed it, I had to re-do the entire document to add Ct.! |

Okay. Will do. I'll have the spelling of my mom's name changed. How about left-out words? It says I have dark blonde, blue-grey eyes...
Or wrong pronouns? Occasionally it refers to me as "they".

I agree. Fix everything in one big swoop. Why even bother with the stress of changing it later? I had my HS agency redo our home study and change a fwe things and they didn't seem to have a problem with it.
