Is this the same thing as Ekaterinburg? If so, this is supposed to be a very difficult region.

Yes, Sverdlovsk is the former Soviet era name for Ekaterinburg. Beesweet67, you might want to ask the admin to change your title to Ekaterinburg so you get more replies. There are a lot of Ekaterinburg AP on this form who may not recognize Sverdlovsk as synonomous with Ekaterinburg.
 Generally, Ekaterinburg has the reputation as one of the more demanding and burdensome regions to adopt from.

We adopted from Ekat last summer (left for court a year ago this weekend), so my information will be a year old but I would be happy to answer any questions about the region.
We did have to do quite a bit of extra paperwork but overall the experience was wonderful. And our son is amazing!! Jen mama to Seth (adopted 8/10/05) now 3 1/2 Grace (bio dd) now 6 weeks Allison (bio dd) stillborn 11/17/03

We adopted from Ekaterinburg - 10/05 - difficult process, lots of paperwork, and a lengthy time between trips (although ours wasn't too bad at 4.5 months - we met many people who waited over 6+months).
No 10 days waived, but it was a lovely city to stay in and plenty to do. Our son is the treasure of our lives. I'd be happy to answer any questions about the region you may have.
