I would certainly plan high. You never know what could happen. Our referral fees came in SIGNIFICANTLY higher than expected. Last minute travel and paperwork re-do's which were unbudgeted cost an additional chunk of change.

Caution on the tax credit. You will need to wait till year end to file and may not be elegible for the enitre amount. Ask your tax person.

I apologize if this type of thing is already posted somewhere but I'm just learning how to navigate this board.

Thanks in advance for any help you can lend!

Hi - I tracked this using Quicken after all was said and done including notary, 2 visits (no 10 day waiver) , etc etc it came to $39,000 for us.

Our 1st adoption in 2004 was a little over $40,000. That was about $10,000 more than what we were expecting. So, leave yourself some wiggle room.

Almost $51,000.00 for us! That was this year for two siblings-22 months and 3 and 1/2 years old. We had budgeted $35,000 originally to adopt one child, but our journey led us to two children. Be ready to "up" your budget at anytime, particulary if you travel during holidays or the summer OR if your 10 days aren't waived. We traveled in COLD weather in Jan. and March and our ten days were waived. Thank God!

Good luck to you.

I would definitely second the "add more than you expect" because of the varying costs people have already talked about - airfare, hotel costs, region, etc

We just came back in April - stayed the 10 day waiting period and it was 43K
We were planning on 30! A little off!

Good luck on your journey- it'll be a LONG road, but in the end, you'll get the best gift in the world!
