Post adoption blues
Hi everyone,
I usually post on the China forum, as we have adopted our daughter from China seven months ago. I posted a thread on that forum about Post Adoption Depresion and was told there are several threads over here on that issue. I would really love to read what others have to say about it, and how they got over the depression, but can't find any of those postst. Can anyone help? |

Good for you for recognizing that you need some help. That is half of the battle. I hope that you feel better soon.

I suffered from this for a while. Definitely see your doctor about it. I took some time off from work, with the kiddie still going to daycare. That, coupled with good meds, really has helped a lot.

Hello from the resident PAD's sufferer!
And I have been known to get on the PAD's soapbox. Definitely check out this forum...which I used to be very active on... http://forums.adoption.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2831 This thread in particular from this forum.... http://forums.adoption.com/showthread.php?t=207306&highlight=PAD%27s And another... http://forums.adoption.com/showthread.php?t=234650&highlight=PAD%27s I strongly suggest speaking with your family doctor...only they can determine what treatment is right for your situation. I did need medication for well over a year...but am currently off the medication. I am so sorry you are suffering with this...if you have any questions...either post here or pm me (but I am slow responding to PM's sometimes... )All the best.

I suffered from this also. I would definately see your doctor. I required medication to help me.
I would also be happy to answer any questions you may have. Vicki

I'm still in the middle of getting through this - although I haven't used meds, I definitely have become an "expert" in my own right from reading everything I can get my hands on and talking about it. That is the first step - to admit there is a problem...it's sometimes the quiet part of adoption, which can make you feel alone and compound the issue even more. You are not alone!!!

wow! I did not know about this other forum! I have had my moments of sadness...don't think it is a real problem, but it is especially helpful to know that these feelings are common and that I am not alone!
The worst of it only lastest the first few weeks, but now that I know about this other forum, I will learn what I can so that I can identify if it becomes more of a problem...thank you!!

I definitely experienced this also for about 6 weeks. My husband had major surgery 5 days after we were home and for about 2 weeks his prognosis was not good. That coupled with the fact that we were overwhelmed and exhausted led to depression. It really helped me to admit how hard this was and get some respite (from both hubby and daughter). Just half a day here and there made ALL the difference. As adoptive parents we often wait so many years for a child that when the miracle finally happens we feel we don't have the right to whine ans complain like other new moms. Bringing home a child at any age is stressful and exhausting---reach out to others, get the help you need, and this will soon pass.

Thanks, everyone. I am reading through the links you provided. I am shocked that I would end up with PADS but it helps to finally admit to myself that I have it, and to hear that I'm not alone in having these feelings. My daughter and I are leaving for Europe for a month to see my family, maybe it will help to talk to them. (I don't have very many friends in the States, no real support system.) Will get back in touch after we return... and I think I will see a doctor then. I know I need some help....
