OT- Considering a move to Raleigh NC!
DH and I are contemplating a move to the Raleigh area. I've never been there. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice about the area. Specifically we were thinking about the town of Fuquay Varina just outside Raleigh. If anyone is from the area or have visited I'd love to hear your thoughts. How are the schools? Convenient shopping? Thanks!!

I live about a half-hour south of Fuquay but do not know anything about their schools. The link below is a great source for finding out information about schools. Hope this is okay to post.

Oh so much to say! I live in Garner, near Raleigh. Someone else on this list lives in Fuquay and someone else on here lives in Cary. There are quite a few on this list. Any questions, shoot them my way at my home address though. warrs@mindspring.com. We love living here and really would not move. VERY convenient to the beach and to the mountains. Lots to do. Climate is great, though on the humid side during the summer. Big city yet everyone seems to say hello. Top notch medical care in the nation. I'm probably not the best one to talk to about the schools but then again, my situation is a little unique. I like that I can still live somewhere and never have to lock up my house or my car when I go somewhere. Nice to have that peace of mind. We love the fact that we live where there are still trees and not some postage stamp lot. Growing up, I have lived all over the US, and the world (dad--military). Yet, I always seem to like NC. Hope that helps. Who knows, maybe one day we'll be able to meet up!
Good luck,

Jumping over from the Guatemala board. I live in Fuquay Varina and love it here. There's a Walmart in town and a few restaurants. You can be in Cary in 20 minutes and they have everything there that you need. Malls, movie theaters, and tons more restaurants. The weather is great here, but the humidity has been hard for us to get used to. We are transplants from California. The beaches are great and we are hoping to visit the mountains next year. Please pm me with any questions.
If you or your husband are going to work in Raleigh make sure it is not North Raleigh. If it is North Raleigh, you could be looking at an hour commute.

We just moved from Florida to Fuquay Varina about 2 weeks ago. The weather here is considerably nicer than Florida(at this time of year). I think we will really like living here but we are still learning our way around. We lived on the other side of Raleigh 16 years ago but a lot has changed since then. Let me know if I can be of any help.
Bonnie, we are in Crooked Creek. Are you any where near us? Kristen |

Kristen,
I did a google search for Crooked Creek and I think you are on the opposite side of town from me. Are you actually in the city of Fuquay Varina? We are not in the city, but our mailing address is Fuquay Varina. We are about 7 or 8 minutes out of town in smaller development. We've been here for about 3 years now. Please pm me if you have any questions and I would be happy to try to help. By the way..........Crooked Creek looks like a beautiful place to live!!!! Hope you continue to like it here.

I live in Knightdale, NC which is about 45 minutes from Fuquay. This is a great area to live in. The schools are top notch (in Wake County), but we are having a huge overcrowding issue with the schools and students are reassigned every year (not necessarily the same students). It's a very contentious issue here.
We love it here and have no desire to move anywhere else. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. Liz

Raleigh
Hi,
We live in N.Raleigh. Love it here. We both work in RTP and have a 15 minute commute. Our local schools are great. All in all a good place to raise kids. PM me if you need any specifics. I moved here on a whim 12 years ago when it was rated the best place in America to live! Oh, those fancy free days. Best move I ever made. Best MustangLippy |
