'Fess up everyone... what do you let your kids eat or do ....

that you know would be "frowned upon" by others?

I'll go ahead an make my confession...

1. We let the boys (ages 5.5 and 6) sleep on the floor in their playroom more often than in their beds
2. Sometimes they have an ice cream sandwich for breakfast
3. Sometimes, if we go swimming we skip our bath that night!

anyone else?

Alli, Antonina never has a bath on friday night because she has a swimming class first thing saturday morning! I thought that was in the rule book!!

On occassion the bedsheets get left for two weeks without being changed.

P.J's get washed when they walk themselves to the washing basket (OK, I'm not that bad I'm just trying to be humerous).

....I'm sure I'll think of somemore....

Sometimes, I let Alex eat pretzels or cheese and crackers for lunch since I know he will eat more of this than a sandwich, or anything else for lunch.

I let Gabe eat a Happy Meal once in a while (he's 22 months). Before kids, I swore I would never do that. Yeah, whatever! I do feel guilty, though, because I'm giving him a taste for junk food. You should see how fast he crams those french fries in his mouth!

He also:
walks outside with no shoes
wears the same PJ's two nights in a row (as long as they are not peed in!)
stays up too late sometimes

I'm sure there are more that I just can't think of right now......

OK...I slammed junk food and sodas in another thread,
so let me fess up. Our food is healthy healthy - BUT

*We skip TWO nights of baths every week (Mommy's choice )

*I hate to clip toenails, so sometimes they get a little -er- longish...

*I'm too cheap to pay a stylist, so I usually cut my daughter's hair myself... (can you say "fang bangs"?)

After having 6 kids all of your "fess-ups" seem very tame.

Our kids drink soda every day
Hot Dogs and Gatorade is a common baseball season dinner
Our laundry often stays folded in baskets in the laundry room for over a week

Our kids only take baths/showers every other day. It just isn't needed more often.
We only change sheets about once a month (we have 7 beds)
We eat lots of take-out foods
Our toys in the toy room rarely get completely put away
We don't make our beds unless guests are coming over

I have plenty of other ones now that some of you reminded me....

i have recently learned the joys of getting dressed out of the clean laundry basket!

Also, we have one "fun drink" per day (kool aid, diet soda etc)... that goes out the window at my parents house though.. we are all diet cokaholics

we have a great dane and sometimes she sleeps in bed with one of the kids... most of the time she sleeps on her bed in their room

oh, and our boys sometimes sleep in the same twin bed if they are watching a DVD and fall asleep which happens a good bit

lots of things I said "I'll never let happen...."

oh well, they are more than happy and good boys so i guess we havent messed them up too badly!

-We have found that Charlie LOVES French fries, and has had McDonald's and other fast food occasionally. He needed to gain weight, and I could think of nothing better for that!

-Charlie likes frozen drinks of any kind, so he always shares my white cherry drink at Target and frozen Dr. Peppers with his daddy.

-I know at my mother's during the day, at snacktime, Charlie has his fill of cookies and most every toddler snack ever made.

-He will drop a snack on the floor, and picks it up so fast, I don't have a chance to grab it, so he eats it, and I let him.

-When I'm not looking, Charlie plays in the dog food dish and fishes his toy balls out of the dog's water.

I've definately learnt NOT to iron clothes un-necessarily.

Both cats sleep with me and I love it when Antonina climbs into bed with me during the night so all 4 of us are together.

GREAT thread - and a good reality check for all.

let's see, here are mine:

1. NEVER wash sheets more than once a month unless someone is ill.

2. most breakfast cereals are the colors of the rainbow.

3. summer beverage-of-choice is koolaid. boys take turns making it and it's consumed in large quantities.

4. usually a couple times a month in the summer we will go out for icecream for lunch.

5. bathrooms only get a good cleaning monthly. (disclaimer: i don't have any crawling babies or toddlers anymore so no one is down on the floor or grabbing on to the edge of the toilet)

6. someone said their laundry sits folded in the basket for a week? hey, it's folded - bonus points for you!!!
once my kids are 12 they do their own laundry... mom has to relinquish control and let them walk out of the house wrinkled and disheveled sometimes --- but, it's not a battle worth fighting. learning responsibility and independence is more important than appearances.

In 20 yrs it won't matter how often the sheets got washed or how often the house got cleaned.... what WILL matter is your relationships. Focus on time together, laughing and learning and sharing burdens.... THAT is a good investment of your time!!

Great thread!

I swore my kids would never drink soda after watching my nephew drink Dr. Pepper like it was water...fast forward to my dd...I am a diet coke addict and it is just not a battle I want to fight everyday...so dd's first two words put together...you got it "Diet Coke"

-we are lucky if the clean clothes make it into a basket...just out of the dryer they are as dd says "nice and warm"

-both dd and cat like to wake Mommy up but Mommy can take a shower in peace if kitty "visits" dd in crib

-we meet friends at McDonalds after her gym class every week

-Kim as for the dropped snack...we refer to that as the 5 second rule

I let my 8 yr old son have a milk shake for breakfast sometimes, he's so skinny and he won't eat breakfast. Also he takes a shower every other day, it's not worth the argument everyday.

Jennifer,
I like your house!!! I only have 5 kids, one behind you... but hotdogs and gatorade are a staple during ball season. My two Russian boys just came home and are going to think that is all Americans eat for supper.

My kids also love to sleep on the play room floor and watch a movie on Friday nights.

Isn't Goldfish crackers on the food pyramid?

My ds is 2.5 years old and has fallen into the picky eater group. Without crackers and cheerios I think he would waste away. Yeah, and he loves that green juice better known as Kool-aid and Hi-C.

We follow the "10 Second Rule" - if the food is on the floor for 10 seconds or less, it's still good.
