Moving during the process...when is it okay?
Our agency told us not to move in the middle of the process, but we are almost at the end now. We have a chance to buy a home that we absolutely love. We can even move in in 2 weeks. We would plan to keep our current home for a few months just so we have the same address as our homestudy. But we want to bring the girls home to the new home so that they have as few changes as possible once they arrive here. So....is it just until your court date that your address should stay the same?? Or is it for your post-placements or what?? I will questions my agency about this later today but wondered what any of you were told...and if you did what we're doing. Nothing like moving and then possibly leaving for Russia a few days later. We're supposed to find out on Thursday what our court date is!

We were told that we could move, but several of the documents would have to be changed and updated. We decided to wait until we got back. We have been home one month and are moving in one more. I would think as long as you "owned" the other one you would be okay. It would be like owning a vaccation house if you know what I mean.

We did exactly that, our process had been crazy and of course we found a house and got a referral within the same 2 week period. So we closed on the new house but left our closing for the old house until later date, so we had the same address. We moved in the new house but for paperwork requirements and court it was our old address.
Once home, we used the new address for registering him with the consulate and then everything else was updated with the first post placement report--it was noted in the report that we had moved and they discussed the new house, etc.. We had no issues at all. Best wishes!

If you are going to be keeping your other home I see no reason why you could not move. We faced a similar situation when we adopted our girls. We were looking a moving about a month before we brought our girls home. Our agency did not seem to think it would be an isssue, and said they would update our info on our first post placement. Unfortunately for us our house was delayed and we were not able to move until after we brought them home (about a month later.) In hindsight I really wish we had moved to our new home BEFORE we brought them home. They were 22months at the time and the move just a month after getting home was really disruptive and confusing to them. Plus the stress of two new babies, and a new house to deal with was pretty disruptive and confusing to me too

We moved in the middle of the process. We didn't have a choice. It was a little bit of a challenge updating the paperwork, but ultimately it didn't affect the adoption.

I moved. I closed on the house in Sept. Closed on the old one after the court date. Filed all my papers under the old address and then updated addresses, by notifying the consulate. All of my post placements were from my new address. I never brought my daughter to the old one. She came home to the new house to lessen the number of transitions that she would have to make.
Glad that you found a wonderful house.

I had this question a couple of weeks ago. Many seemed to indicate it was not a big deal. I think it depends on your agency. After checking with my agency, we are able to move we just have to update the paperwork. Specifically an updated homestudy (not a total redo), and any docs that will go in our final dossier for court. My agency did say that it would be better to move before our first trip, so that might make a difference.
Ultimately if you can keep the old address until after court, you should have no problem and should not have to update anything. I think you should send an update to the Russian consulate though.
