Did you use any EI?

Thank you proudmommyof2 for the idea.

Hi Vicki.... Well, I don't believe that you could call it "Early Intervention" with DD!! At the age of 9 years old, I have been dealing with doctors, specialists, and yes the SCHOOL!!!! Yuck..... They have been the WORST!!!!!

DD has had OT & PT since October. We are ending our "run" with them this week, and I have taken over at home. They said that she has improved 50%, and that I would be able to get her to about 80% which is what they wanted!

The School "Evaluation" is almost complete. My meeting is April 4th, and they indicated to me that DD needs special services. Duh!!!!! Now, I am awaiting the reports to have several professionals to review them.

The Pediatric Neurologist has been doing all that he can do, and DD really likes her.

SO..... with DD being 9+ years old, it is truly considered "Late Intervention", but she is getting the best help now!!!

We had DS tested. However, by the time we could get an appointment, he didn't qualify. (He was still delayed somewhat, but not enough to qualify.)

We've since moved to a different county with a much more responsive EI team. DD qualified for ST and OT.

I knew we would need speech and I was correct. I also had just a developmental eval done and he was average or better then average in all other areas. I am so glad I did it and I encourage everyone to do it just to be on the safe side. I think it totally helps once the school years are upon you.

Hi-
I'm not sure the difference between ot and pt...Aisling qualified for speech for her fine and gross motor skills - there wasn't a selection for multiple so I just went with speech.
Best thing I did!

Connor qualified for speech and he was recently tested for OT, but that was fine. He has definately been more vocal - even saying the ABC's!

I checked most of them! We didn't even have Dennis tested. He didn't show a need for anything, and now, with his 5th birthday in 2 weeks, shows no problems, has passed every speech test, and is doing well in preschool.

Tommy gets speech and PT. We had stopped OT, but the ST wants him to be back in, with a different OT with a specialty in oral motor therapy.

Thanks, Vicki, for doing this!! My boys have been on both ends of the spectrum, and I was curious as to where everyone else falls.

Emily was tested for everything and unfortunately qualified for everything. I say unfortunately because it was very sobering to see all her developmental delays written out in black and white. She now receives PT, feeding therapy and has a general specialist in child development that sees her for 1 hour a week. Hopefully we'll drop the PT soon and add in ST and maybe OT in its place. Emily is now 15 months old.

We tested Sam after being home only 3 months (3 years old) and he didnt qualify. We never tested Sophia since she was only 5 months and she was developmentally on track per our pediatrican.

Do you have access to Parents as Teachers where you live. It is a free service here in MO. They come by once a month or so and screen the child for development. They provide lots of info for how you can help your child at his/her current level. They also make recommendations for further testing if they notice an area that might need further evaluation. That way, you know if you need to persue Early Intervention with a specialist or not.

We have Parents as Teachers in MO and I love it. Neither children qualified so far for special services, but our evaluator comes out to the house and evaulates every 3 months (every month in the beginning) until the our kids are 3. We did just sign up for a free test and evaluation through St. Louis University's International Adoption Clinic. I am curious to see how their evaulation comes through.

When we adopted our DD 3 years ago, we had her tested a couple of months after she came home. She didn't qualify for actual services, but did qualify for their "follow along" program, which was great. Every three months they sent a survey for us to fill out. It listed all of the things that she "should" be doing at that age, and it was a great way for me to see her progress, and to get ideas for what she should be able to do.

Our son was tested in January and did qualify for speech therapy. We have been doing it weekly since then, and this week was the first real breathrough with him...sooo exciting!

We waited until we had been home about 9 months. Our daughter did not qualify for anything. Our son qualifies for home visits with a teacher from ECFE, and he is going to get evaluated for speech, and will qualify for that also. I only wish we had tested them sooner after getting home. I think they would have qualifed for more help then. My thought is the more help I can get the better.

Our son will also get free preschool when he is 3, and they said we can get our daughter free pre-school if we want to sign her up as a peer - model. So we might do that too. She is 7 months older than our son.

Gavin qualified for speech therapy thru Early Childhood Intervention. He was a full year behind in his speech. He started a year ago December and when he underwent his 1 year evaluation this past December, he no longer qualified...he was "age appropriate" in his speech. They were quite impressed that he was not only able to catch up the year that he was behind, but also catch up the actual chronological year as well. We were so proud of him.
