Thumbs up What foods did you take to Russia?

I have read several threads that mention taking peanut butter and other foods to Russia. I thought I would start a thread on foods that were taken to Russia. This might help those who are traveling soon to know what foods travel well.

I took slim fast bars.

Cheese/peanut butter crackers, granola bars, chocolate, coffee singles, oreos. This is what I took when I knew I would be there 3 weeks. I WISH I had taken some ramen soup. I had a few rough days and something mild and salty like ramen soup wouild have been great.

beef jerky was a big one for us...those cereal bars that are full of sugar: there were times when we were dead tired and needed a sudden sugar rush!

For the 1st trip for Arianna we took breakfast bars and trail mix (with nuts)...we found out we loved the food...so we didn't really bother for the 2nd trip or for Alex...

We brought snack food and juice boxes for our daughter, but not for ourselves. We found the food to be quite good in Russia and we really didn't need anything. In Moscow, we stopped in a supermarket and bought a few things to try that looked interesting.

We took instant oatmeal, goldfish crackers, and granola bars. Of course those items were for us! The oatmeal came in very handy when we were in a rush, our hotel's supplied us with a hotpot.

A big hit with children under 2 are Gerber Fruit Puffs!!!! They are kind of like a cheerio but they desolve in the mouth and come in many different flavors. They are in the baby isle. Maddox loved these and went through 2 cans on the second trip. They also come in handy once you're home and you go out to eat!

I did also bring my own baby formula. Maddox wasn't on formula, so there was no "risk" in changing on him. He loved it!!!

If I were to go again, I would definatley bring candy if you are a sweets person.

We took it all... EEEK!

Basically we took candy and granola for us. For Mason on trip 2 we took an entire suitcase of baby food and a huge can of formula. Despite what I have heard about switching them over in Russia, I opted to have the diaper disater in the hotel rather tha in our home. Ironically he had no problens at al. He gobbled up the jar baby food and the formula and also ate chicken noodle soup and mashed potatos and fruit as well as a bit of everything else we ordered from room service. No diaper problems at all. Althoough you can get whatever you need there and likely your in country coordinators will take you shopping, we opted to take everything we wanted for him. If we travel again, we will do the same thing. I felt more relaxed knowing we could stay in the room and not have to go out. Over packing is my new motto when it comes to baby food. It was my way to prepare for him. We carried it on with our court clothing. It was heavy but I felt sogood knowing I could feed my son what I wanted to feed him. Now if we had gone down in the mountains and were awaiting rescue..... I could have fed the entir plane! Well anyway less is not more... more is more
For us.... we ate the Russian food and it was excellent!

I brought granola bars for the adults and a couple of other snack foods - gum - breath mints came in handy.

For my daughter I brought instant oatmeal and farina, some baby foods and baby snacks. She ate the food I brought but also loved room service - eggs, cereal, soup and meat. My kid loves meat. She doesn't like bread or noodles, past etc.

We brought beef jerky, snack size packs of cookies, cheese & crackers, gold fish, 2 jars of peanut butter, and special k bars. I also took a squeeze bottle of strawberry jam - it comes in a plastic bottle, so it was convenient. That way, we just bought bread once we got over there and had PB & J sandwiches whenever we wanted one!

For our son, I brought the Gerber fruit puffs - which he loved, as well as the gold fish and cheerios. Once we got him to the hotel, he loved the soup from room service.

Some crackers and chewing gum. We saw no reason to take food with us...we enjoy eating "local" fare.

For us: M & M's, beef jerky, granola bars, trail mix, instant soup packets, chicken salad/crackers sets (sold at Sam's Club--little cans of chicken salad with crackers--these were great for late night meals when we didn't want to go get something or order room service).

For baby: formula, Gerber fruit puffs, and applesauce baby food

Our biggies were peanut butter, those tuna lunch things, tazo teas... calming, relaxing, energy etc..., granola bars, gum, crackers and peanutbutter, the little one bottle of waters worth crystal light for flavoring the bottle water, salt and pepper, hard candies and mints.

We also found that we were able to get food on the trip pretty readily so on trip two we did not replinish what we had and staying in an apartment in Moscow really helps because you can do your own cooking.

My dh brought some 'airplane snacks' for himself like gum and hard candy.

The big thing that we wished we had brought for the plane trip was BOTTLED WATER!!! We flew Aeroflat (the Russian airline). Apparently, Russians do not need near as much liquid as Americans. We nearly died of thirst...... no joke. I got pretty sick with dehydration during the flight back.

I brought some granola bars and for trip 2 gerber puffs and gerber fruits (just a few jars). Like Jim and some of the others - we enjoyed the food there - we mainly just brought snacks to bring with us if we were out because DH is hungry all the time (worse than a kid!). Plus for us we were right next to a convenience store where we could get anything else.

We took granola bars, PB, and cereal bars for us. For the boys, we took fruit snacks, teddy grahams, and stuff like that. We went grocery shopping once over there and bought juice boxes, soup, oatmeal, yogurt. After we had the boys, we ate most of the meals in our hotel room. We weren't too fond of the food in our region, so this helped us a lot.
