Baby Monitors???

Since you guys gave such great advice about strollers I thought I might ask about baby monitors. I noticed yesterday at the store that they ranged from 19.99 to almost 60.00. Can you please tell me what monitor you have and any positive or negative feedbacks?

Thanks,
Kerry

I think ours was about $30-$35. We first bought the safety glow one and it would get really staticky (is that a word) in the middle of the night. It was really sporadic so I ended up buying the Sound and Lights one and it seemed ok and then started doing the same thing. Come to find out if was when the drying cycle turned on for our dishwasher (we often start the dishwasher before bed) was interferring with it!! Duh!!! Now I know better and run the dishwasher when we are out during the day!
So we have had two and they both work great. I like having the lights on it because you don't necessarily have to listen to them crying to know the intensity of it. Sometimes I turn it down and watch the lights instead.
I also like having the base and the two recievers. We keep one in the bedroom and one downstairs in the living room.

We live in an apt. (1400 sq ft) we have a common wall in the bedroom. I did not use a monitor. Samantha was 9 months old when we brought her home. I just kept the bedroom door open a bit wider than a crack and checked in on her. I did have a baby monitor, I returned it.

We have a cheap one, and it works so well we can hear Tommy breathing on it. We're happy with it.

I have the lights and sounds monitor as well with the dual receivers. I keep on in the kitchen/family room and one in our finished basement. Our bedroom is close enought to hear Ella. When we had the monitor in there, it just kept me awake at night. I did keep in our bedroom for the first month. My opinion is that since our kids are not newborns, you don' t need the super fancy monitors. I think we spent $29.99.

We had a video one which I loved when Alex was littler and his room was far from ours...it had two monitors, so I put one in Arianna's room and could change the channel to check on her too. I haven't used that one for a while...it was made by Summer....I believe it was about $150.00 (MIL bought it...not us. 0

For Arianna we used a Graco 900MHz 2 way...I still have it in Alex's room because...it's habit? We have had it almost 4 years...and it still works fine. It was about $50.00.

There are so many...good luck!

Just make sure you get a monitor that has 900 Mhz, and preferably one with more than two channels. We had purchased a video monitor that was NOT 900Mhz, had only two channels and the static was so loud you couldn't have the volume on. We ended up returning it and just buying a regular (non video) monitor- it's from Fisher Price and it has no static at all. I think it was around $40. Good luck!

We have a Fisher Price one, I think was around 35, we switched to it, after the expensive one from our shower, was horrid, it was so staticky and the batteries died quickly.

We tried 4 different monitors until one finally worked for us. We now have the sony monitor with tons of chanels. It all depends on which one will work in your house.

I still have the monitor in my daughter's room. I bought an inexpensive one and it is fine. I do wish that I had bought a video one. There were times when I would have liked to see what she was doing without disturbing her in her room.

We have a Sony 900mHz one, and I don't recommend it if you're in a two-story house. Just my DH walking down the hall upstairs can interrupt the signal and make the thing start alarming. It's annoying.

On the other hand, it is a lot of fun to hear her talking and singing herself to sleep.

I agree with Kim, I love listening to my daughter in her room. She is singing songs, telling stories - it can be quite amusing.

We have a Fisher Price 900 mhz. It was a hand-me-down from a cousin so it is well used. We LOVE it - no static, I go outside with it all of the time and we use it in a 2 story too.

A few weeks ago I left it at my grandmothers by accident so had to buy a cheapy one for a while. It is made by Safety 1st and was about $22. My sister has the same model and our two signals cross when she is over with her toddler - even when we change channels. I hate it.

I love our Sony monitor because it is voice activated so you do not hear all the little household noises,it switches on when the baby makes noise.
