Another big turn in our Adoption

Ok, we have submitted all but one piece of paperwork to our agency for our China adoption. Today my agency called and said that in Kaliningrad, Russia "the region our dossier is registered in" has issued a court order to go ahead and process adoption for families whose dossier was submitted before the Agencies lost their accredidation which would be us. That is all that our agency knows at this minute. The form my dh and I had to complete to withdraw our paperwork from Russia is in Kaliningrad and has not made it to Moscow yet. The coordinator in Kaliningrad called my agency today to find out if we wanted to go ahead and withdraw the paperwork or to go ahead and process it for our adoption. So what dh and I have decided was to wait approx. 6 weeks to see if there is anymore news coming from Kaliningrad, before we have our agency pull our paperwork in Russia. So I guess that officially makes me a Russia/China pap. lol. I swear I could write a book on how many twist and turns this adoption has taken . I have not even talked about all of them on the boards. I just wanted to let you all know and ask for anyones opinion, who would like to give it. I hope we are doing the right thing. If there is no news from Russian in a few months we will go ahead and send our paperwork to China. I am calm, and ok with this, but I am getting a little dizzy from all the turning.lol

Steffanie, boy can I relate! I have been in Bulgaria since 12/2004. Last fall I gave up and went to Kazakhstan, but never removed my paperwork for Bulgaria. Well, guess what - both countries came though this week!

YIKES! I am waiting for the details on my Bulgarian referral, and if it is good, I will go there (it is a special needs child). If it is not somthing I can handle, Kazakhstan here I come for a blind travel!

Hmm...sometimes life brings surprises! I think it's wonderful that you have an opportunity to continue your Russian adoption journey if you choose to do so.

BTW, I'm wondering if this edict is related to the information that Ms. O'Rear has been posting in various message groups. In brief, she indicated that the MOE in Moscow stated that "in process" adoptions could legally continue, even when the PAPs agency lost accreditation mid-stream, either through the delay in re-accreditation or because said accreditation was removed.

Life is filled with amazing twists, isn't it? You've got a great attitude, and undoubtedly will find the child (or could it be children??! ) you are meant to parent.

Best wishes for your ultimate success as your journey to your destined child continues to unwind...

Thanks everyone for the supportive words of encouragement. Yes, at this point I have to just go along with it. Kay Congratulations on your referral. That is wonderful. Jim, you have a really good point. I am sure it has something to do with it. I was not expecting to hear anything more from Russia, b/c I thought our paperwork had already been removed, so this is another shocker. If that is the case Jim, I hope more waiting families are given the opportunities to process their adoption. Thanks again everyone, and I guess I am back on board here.

Hi Steffanie
Did your agency give you any idea how long you'd have to wait for a referral if you kept your paperwork in Kaliningrad? Our dossier was registered there last month. Our agency is telling us 2-7 months, but most of the folks on the Kaliningrad adoption list at yahoo groups were in the 7-10 month time frame.

Sheri,

No my agency did not tell me how long it would be for a referral. They said they would call me when they received more information. I would hope it would not take that long, if we were going to receive a referral since our dossier has been there for over a year, but who knows what to expect anymore. I will call my agency to see if they have anymore information. Thanks for the ino. Sherri.
