Update on David's CT scan
The ENT said David's sinus' were totally blocked (and the CT scan was done when I "thought" he was 100% better)
Because of insurance purposes, David has to have 3 weeks of anti-biotics to see if his sinus' clear....so we are back on anti-boitics for another 10 days. He will then have another CT scan. If this round of anti-biotics does not clear him up - then surgery to remove adnoids and to wash his sinus' out will be done. This STINKS!!! In between the end of the anti-biotics and the CT scan the ENT said David could have another episode of ear infection and run high fever again... Will this ever end? I want the best for David and do not want to quickly elect for surgery, but how much does one child have to suffer before something is done...makes you wonder about our insurance companies. At least David has gained 14 pounds and grown 6 inches since last November when he came to his forever home with us!! Susan Bham AL

Susan,
I was wondering how David was doing. We're having a similar battle with Hunter though thankfully his ears aren't involved. A woman at work just had a 2.5-year-old go through the surgery for adenoids and the sinus flush. It went great and she has been so much healthier. I hope they give you a go ahead soon. I'm hoping that as soon as we figure out what's happening at work (plant closing in summer 2007 announced today) we can get him scheduled and fixed. Good luck!!

My friend's son was plagued with ear infections and sinus problems and the change in him since having his adnoids removed has been incredible. I can't remember how much weight he gained or inches he grew, but it was significant. Hopefully the surgery will help....once insurance lets it happen. I'm sorry David has to go through more antibiotics, but at least there is a plan in place and hopefully an end in sight. Good luck and keep us posted.

Yuck - I'm so sorry...but sometimes I do think surgery is the answer...it does NOT sound like you are jumping at it! We are just starting down this path of "figuring it all out"...have appt for andenoids next week - allergy testing...more doctors, more doctors. I'm with you - it will be nice to have answers and it be over.
May David be blessed and have a quick end to his yucky times!!!

That has been the hold up with David's treatment...since there was no medical history the Dr's had to watch & see what he got and what time of the year he got sick.
I can let all other parents know that you need to write down your child's symptoms, how high the fever went, how long he/she was sick, what RX was given to make him/her well, especially if you have an International Dr, an Allergy Dr, an ENT, and a Pediatrician - that way each Dr can see what, when and where - and track the sicknesses. There really is a puzzle that has to be put together to determine what is causing the illness - and a diagnosis can be found quicker, especially in our older children. Susan |

Stupid insurance companies--I am sorry you have to wait--I hope he has an easy run with this treatment and then get the surgery he needs!
I agree you need to keep good records--we had been too quite a few specialists in 2004 and for each visit, they cc'd me on their dictated copies of letters so I would have them in my files, I just keep a small notebook in my bag and that way you can jot down everything you mentioned above--I agree it definitely makes it easier for all involved to have the full pic. Good luck and best wishes!

Susan,
I'm sorry for your little guy! My son had totally blocked sinuses when he was an infant. At almost 2, we received the same information. We were told to do the course of antibiotics and also some steroid. I had also had chronic sinus and ear infections as a child. YEARS later it was determined that I was allergic to dairy. I stopped drinking milk and stopped getting the infections.. So, we took DS to a naturopath for allergy testing (I was not interested in the needle testing that our regular doctor would have provided). We found that DS was allergic to dairy and wheat. After changing his diet, he cleared up and had not had a sinus or ear infection since. He will be 7 in June. Perhaps since you have to wait for a few weeks anyway, you might consider naturopathic allergy testing. No, your insurance won't cover it. But it was by far the best $150 I ever spent! Good luck and I hope little David feels better soon! |

Susan,
So sorry to hear about David. I hope he is feeling better soon. We have the first (and what I am praying will be the last) tubes being put in Sophia's ears on Thursday. Our ENT has already warned us that this might be the first of many procedures based on what her adnoids and tonsils look like. I am hoping we fall into that percentage that sees dramatic differences with only one set of tubes! I hope the antibiotics work well for David! Christina
