Need a Notary? Check your local library...
Public Service Announcement...
I have just become a certified Notary Public as a requirement of my job. I am now able to notarize documents in the state of NJ as are all my colleagues! It is something that we are having all our librarians do as a public service! I just want others to be aware that this might be a place to get your documents notarized for free or for a reduced fee. Best of all, most public libraries are open evenings and weekends which alleviates the need to take time off to get things notarized. I checked around the web and noticed that this is a trend. We had a discussion about this on a librarian's forum too... Many other public libraries in a variety of states have this service as well. Some charge a dollar for each notarization as a fundraiser to buy more books and others are free. I have not seen any public library charging more than a dollar. Hope this helps... I know of at least 3 or 4 libraries in NJ doing this and the list grows daily.

Another great source for a notary is your local bank. Most banks, if you have an account there, will do it for free. That is what we did in filing our petition to adopt.

cool! thanks for sharing. library hours are much better than banking hours.
the best notary is a FRIEND notary. i have several. we've never paid for any notary-ing. i have contemplated becoming one just so i could help adoptive parents.

Thanks for sharing this Janie. Our local library has recently started passport applications.
I would encourage everyone to start checking their local libraries for such services. Thanks again Janie, Vicki
