Booster or Highchair?

Does anyone have any advice or preference between a booster seat or a highchair? We're trying to decide which to get for our almost 2 year old referral and are looking for pros or cons on either. Thanks!

At 2, you would be better off with a booster seat I think.

We have a plastic booster seat that folds up for travel and has a detachable tray. She started using it at age 2 1/2 when she arrived.

It was less than 20 dollars and is easy to clean and has a seat belt if you need it.

It's a little pricey, but I highly recommend the Stokke child seat. It's great, I started using it before two and my son could climb up himself and it forces him to sit right up to the table. I am going to buy a second one for my daughter because it is adjustable and my son will use his until about five or so.

My two cents...I love having the high chair..our son was 16 mos when he came home (19 mos. now) and the high chair is great for keeping him contained, yet at the table with us. He can't climb out of the one we have due to it's design (Idon't think I can name it here but pm me if you'd like it). We have used booster seats at friends' and they are fine for visiting. But for everyday, I like having the large tray and seat that contains him!

My daughter came home at 12 months and we put her right in a booster seat, but one that has a tray on it. This provided us with the most flexability. We also bought a fold up one to take with us when we visit other people.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it takes up one of our kitchen chairs, which is a problem when we have guests for dinner, but other than that I really like it.

Our youngest daughter will be just about 2 when we bring her home. We have a booster seat for her. I like it because it takes up minimal space in the kitchen and she will be able to sit at the kitchen table with the other 5 of us! Either will work though--it's personal preference or whichever you have available to you. Our booster has a tray and a seatbelt so it's just about like having a highchair anyway. We have the $20 one too.

I vote booster. I used it with my son when he was 18 months old up until he was too big for it. I've used it with my friends daughter from about 12 months (ours has seat belt, tray) and it worked great. We will use it with our daughter when she finally comes home. Of course, at the rate we are going she'll be 16 years old and no longer need a booster!

David at 2 1/2 came home to a booster seat. He was used to sitting in a small chair in the orphanage and I didn't want to confine him in a high chair - but then on the other hand do you want to invest the extra money in a high chair to use for maybe a year?

I say it's strickly up to your preference. My niece uses her high chair as a way to hold one son in place while he is eating so she can feed her other son.

My vote is for the booster seats. We do not have a lot of room in our house and we could just place them on our dining room chairs. We started with 2 high chairs in the dining room. Way too much furniture for us!

I vote booster too! We asked the same question to everyone we knew, they all voted for the booster because we just wouldn't be using a high chair for that long anyway. (Our soon to be youngest will be about 20 months when she comes home) Just make sure you get one with straps!

I love having a high chair. Grace is 18 mos. and it is still plenty big for her for a long time to come (we have a Peg perego). One thing I love about the high chair is if she is in it and I'm cooking or packing lunches in the kitchen I can roll her in the same room with me and she can be right by my side while she eats or snacks! When we don't need the tray anymore we can just remove it and use it as a booster chair right up to the table!

Good thread. We've always just had a high chair but got rid of it. I was wondering the same things about chosing a hight chair or booster. If our DD is younger than 18 months I decided on a high chair, I wasn't sure which way to go if she's closer to two. I agree with the reasons for the high chair and the booster. Had never thought that the closer to two the kids were that they are already sitting in little chairs. Thanks for the ideas!
