Russian Phrases For Children: Parts 1-3
Compliments of Shay, I'm pleased to post the Russian Phrases For Children that she mentioned in one of her threads a few weeks ago.
Becuase the formatting of the files makes them pretty large, I've broken the phrasebook down into six parts, one in each attached file. The First three parts are attached to this post, the next three parts are attached to the next reply post. I'm no fluent Russian speaker; however, I've notced some errors in choices of words and transliterated pronounciation. Neither Shay, nor I, nor any really qualified Russian translator has proofed the phrasebook, so use it at your own risk knowing it may not be perfect. Who knows, you could try to ask your child to let the dog out and wind up telling them your DH is a lazy slob who just sits on the couch watching football all day.

I wish we had these before - we tried the russian language cds and had NO idea what sounds were supposed to be trying to imitate. (it was sad and comical) We found a list similar to this (but not as good!) right before our trip and then we were like "oh that's what we are supposed to be saying"
so for anyone learning I think these are really helpful in combination with the cds. I will be sure to keep them for our next adoption!

Wow, this is a great little reference resource that would be so convenient to travel with! Often, just knowing and trying even a few words in Russian makes all the difference in the recipient's attitude, and certainly demonstrates good will in attempting to communicate. We found people very appreciative of even our most botched attempts at Russian pronunciation.
Thanks for making this available to everyone.

I haven't gone through your list as we don't speak much Russian in the house anymore. These were the expressions that stuck.
TeeeeeHa!- Be Quiet Sah Deese- Sit Down Pa Shleee - Come with me eedeesoodah!- Come Here! (Command) My son used this expression many times when I took him to school "Pop, Apohzdal" Dad we're late! Many times at the dinner table "Ah.... Fkooozna!" An expression to show that they approve of the tasty meal. |

Thanks so much for doing this. This is wonderful. We had our son here in the summer on a hosting program and I was constantly looking through my Russian translation book but everything is one word. The only phrases it had were ones you would use if you were visiting Russia. This is going to be so helpful.
