Time between trips 1 and 2
Hey,
I've only recently started posting after coming on and reading posts for almost a year now. I have noticed such a wide array of wait times between trips 1 and 2. Some very quickly like the one just posted (that's awesome) to some 6 months and longer. Just curious the reasons for the LOOONG waits? Agency, region, court, etc. Thanks!

Russia Adoption Information

With the various issues of the past year in regards to agency accreditation, MOE changes, registry changes, there have been a lot of families who've had to wait a while for that second trip. Especially with the registry changes, which lengthened the amount of time a child spent on the registry before being available for international adoption. It was raised from 4 months to 6, and in some cases the child was required to remain on the registry the additional 2 months even though the adoptive parents had already accepted the referral.
It's also region dependent. Some regions only have one judge that does all types of court cases, others have judges that are specific to adoption. Waiting for a court date can sometimes be lengthy, depending on how many spots a judge allocates to adoption cases per month. I'm sure there are lots of other factors some other folks out there can chime in with that I am forgetting, but those are a few of the ones I could think of.

KIm is right - right now one of the main reasons for the wait is agencies that aren't accreditited. (It may have run out after people went on trip 1).
Regions have a lot to do with it - some have quicker turn around than others. Agencies - I think this makes a difference too - the couple we traveled with last year didn't go back to court for another month after we did. I know in our region that is something I continually see (that some agencies just have quicker time in between trips). Then there is always the rare glitch with paperwork - it seems a lot of judges are reviewing paperwork more thoroughly before giving a court date. Oh and I think a few people have had things held up because they didn't get their release letters timely - that was a big issue for a while earlier this year but I think it's better now.

Hurry up and wait...
The reasons posted above probably account for most of the delays some folks are having...
I had a six-week longer than expected wait at the end of the summer because apparently in many regions it is common practice for the judge(s) to take off the whole month of August for vacation. The entire schedule gets pushed back... I had another unexpected wait when the judge decided (arbitrarily?) that she wanted additional documentation about the value of my house...They rescheduled my date from scratch at that point, though I could have faxed the info. right away. Someone else posted in a different thread that things slow down to a crawl in the dead of winter. |
