Our baby will be 1 tomorrow!
Only he'll be in Russia What are some things many of you did to celebrate your children's birthdays while they were in Russia? We are so sad, b/c it's his very first birthday and it won't be spent with his mom and dad. Oh Nelly Olson! |

Happy Birthday to your little guy!
Our little guy had his first birthday this past February in Russia - we didn't get him home until May. But we did celebrate the day here even though he couldn't be with us. We had our family come over for a birthday party, we served cake, etc., and we videotaped the whole thing for him to watch when he's older. We each taped a message to him wishing him a happy birthday and telling him how much we were looking forward to spending birthday #2 with him here at home. It really made the day special for us, although a little bittersweet. But at least WE know we marked the occasion properly, and he'll always have the videotaped messages we made for him to know how much his special day meant to us.

Happy birthday to your little guy.....
We had planned to do something but our first son Spencer insisted we do a cake and special dinner and a movie. We were scheduled for trip one for 3 days later and we would get to see him 7 days after his first birthday so that made us feel better. I attached a picture of the cake and we had dinner out that night and saw Chicken Little afterwards. We do have picture of us at dinner and we saved our ticket stubs.

we did the same thing, we celebrated Max's birthday.
I made cupcakes and bought him a gift, card and we lite his candle and took pictures. We gave him his gift when he got home a month later and took more pictures of him with it. It was a bouncy car. He loves it. We were allowed to send a gift to the orphanage for his birthday. I sent a small toy rattle but I don't think they really gave it to him. We did get it back and he acted like he never saw it before. It is more for you so celebrate and know that on this first birthday he does have someone to love him and pray for him, that is more than he had before. I pray you can bring him home soon.....

Awww -- Happy Birthday, Little one!
I know it must be bittersweet. I would echo the idea of marking the occasion now even if it's just buying a little present to keep for him, then also celebrating once you bring him home. Maybe the best way to get through it mentally is to tell yourself, this is his last birthday WITHOUT you and that from now on you will be marking all these special days together. Hang in there, and I'm pulling for quick travel news so you can be with your little guy. Best wishes and God bless.
