Prayers Needed

Hi everyone, I need everyone's prayers.

We have been home with our two children, our beautiful 2 year old daughter and our beautiful 4 year old boy, for six weeks now.

Our 2 year old daughter has had an upper respiratory infection since we returned. She has been to the doctor's office every week since we arrived home and has been on antibiotics and asthma medications because the doctor thought she might have asthma since she was wheezing.

Since the orphanage director told me that she has had bronchitis five times this year, the doctor decided to do a chest X-ray. Yesterday, during the follow-up visit, the doctor gave us the results of the X-ray and right now they do not sound good.

Apparently, the X-ray shows an enlarged heart, which is called cardiomegaly. In addition, the doctor said that her bronchioles are scarred and that the congestion has possibly caused lung damage and that as a result her heart is working on overtime, which the doctor stated will lead to heart failure. The pediatrician has decided to put her on another round of antibiotics to see if she can get rid of the congestion she has and in a week if the congestion still persists, he will refer our daughter to a cardiologist.

I am really scared and have cried over and over. We do not know what to do. We feel helpless. Other than getting her the care she needs, we do not know how to deal with the sadness this is causing. The only thing we can focus on right now is that the pediatrician did say that her heart sounds normal right now. He also said that it is possible that since she has viral pneumonia that the scarring found on the X-rays are just as a result of the pneuomonia and nothing more; however, he said, the only way to tell if in fact, she does not have anything more serious is to keep her on the antibiotics for another 10 days to see if the infection goes away. He also said that the enlarged heart could be temporary as a result of the breathing problems, but he will not know for sure until her next visit.

Please pray that all she has is just temporary bronchiole scarring and that she will be okay. She is a feisty little girl, weighing only 20 pounds. She does not appear ill at all other than the wheezing, so we really do not know how ill she really is because she is always so happy.

I thank God everyday for granting me the ability to bring her home and for granting me the ability to be her mommy. Please pray for our daughter that she will be okay. Thank you.

Gigi-
I will keep your little girl in my prayers! She is definitely getting the help she needs so hopefully they will get it figured out soon. If her heart is enlarged shouldn't the doctor refer you to a cardiologist anyway based on that - I mean if he's telling you there's a chance she could have heart failure? Do you need the referral from the pedi to go? maybe you can just go anyway and see if your insurance will pay part of it. Sometimes if you aren't covered by the insurance they don't charge you as much -
I hope you get some concrete answers soon!
Hang in there-
Karen

My thoughts and prayers go out to you. I can't imagine what you are going through.

I know I was scared when I brought my son to the doctor a couple of days after we got home. During the exam the doctor didn't like the sound of his lungs and ordered a chest x-ray. I thought he just had a cold. It turned out he had pneumonia. I remember holding him and shaky since I was so upset.

I hope that all works out for the best.

Hugs and prayers....I know the feelings that are racing thru you....we had some pretty devastating news 10 days after returning home with Alex....it takes a while but you will begin to adjust and them fight the hardest you have ever fought for your little girl.

Thankfully she is here in the US, with great medical treatments available...and she has her loving family!

Gracious God - I pray for your healing hand to touch Gigi's little girl. Please, please deliver peace to Gigi and her family. Give the physicians the insight to see, treat, and heal this little child. Your heart is with the orphans, precious Lord. Help Gigi in this difficult time. May she receive your peace that surpasses all understanding. Amen.

Prayers are going out to you and your family. Try to focus on the positive things the doctor said and the fact that her heart sounds normal right now. I know you believe in the power of God and what he can do, just look at your two little ones. Please keep us updated.

I'm so sorry you are going through this difficult time.

Your daughter is getting the medical care she needs....thank goodness you got her home to help her. I pray all goes well and this is just a temporary condition.

Gigi, you know I will be praying for you. I know you must feel very scared - it's natural to feel that way for your child. As you have done before, lean on God and He will bring you through it. Please keep us informed on what the doctors say.

I remember when I took Olya to see an ENT with her chronic ear infections. Well, she talked about everything from tubes (which is very routine and virtually problem-free) to "it could be a tumor" that is causing the fluid behind her ear. Doctors have to give us best AND worse case scenarious - I mean, I guess they have to. It has been my experience to hear the best and the worst. Of course, for weeks all I could think about was that Olya had a tumor - it's only natural for us to think about the worst case scenario, just in case. Well, she doesn't have a tumor, she had tubes put in her ears, and she's doing fine. I'm praying for the best for your daughter, too.

Here's a hug for you!

I agree with Lola. Dr. tend to give you good and bad infor. Sometimes I think it's so they feel they have covered all bases.

Samantha had a very bad urinary tract infection. She had to indure 3 catherdure procedures just so they could make sure that there was no kidney damage or any unrinary scarring. It was scary for me and painful for Samantha. She and I got through it and everything turned out beautifully. She even still likes the Dr.

Since most of us do not know the medical histories of these kids my Dr. actually reassured me by adding that he needs to make sure she's doing well so that now her medical history will have a starting position. He takes time with us. And considering it's K_______ser Perm____ente, we as parents are glad he does.

I will think of you in my prayers. It will be ok, I feel it.
