Prime Time Live - Russia Adoption
Has anyone else heard that Prime Time Live is supposed to air a story about the father who adopted the girl from Russia and then forced her into pornography? From what I understand it is supposed to air on the 17th and be pretty sensational. I am concerned because everyone time one of these tragedies has happened and it hits the news our adoption has been delayed by months!
I even hesitate to bring it up here, but it was already in the news when it happened. I just don't want the story brought up again for ratings for ABC and have it affect all of us! Val |

I did know about this from another forum. I emailed Primetime to explain how damaging this could be for many families in the process right now. If you would like to email a response as well the link is:

Thanks so much for posting that link Kretzklan.
I sent a message urging them not to air the show and gave them my reasons. I also urge all of you to do the same. I know it probably won't make a difference, but it can't hurt. And maybe at the very least they will add a segment talking about the positive outcomes of the vast majority of Russian adoptions.

I sent an email informing them that this show jeopardizes the future adoptions of thousands of children. I encouraged them to do a show on the many positive adoption stories out there instead.

I too asked if they understand the enormity of the backlash they will cause for 1000 of children and their potential families. I also encouraged stories on educating the nation on the thousands of positive, healthy, happy adoptions. I also reminded (more likely educated them) that November is Nationa Adoption Awareness month.

I think it's great that you've all responded to them - from the other forum I believe there are lots of emails going out to Primetime as well. Lately I've become much more vocal about the negative side of adoption that is so commonly shown in the media. They MUST show both sides - the negative stories are sensational and get better ratings...but at some point it must stop being about ad dollars and start being about the people they affect. I think making our voices heard is VERY important.

This is so bad. As someone above posted, it is all about ratings for the network. I have close family that worked quite high up in the news division and took early retirement.
I'm trying to be discreet but there was a reason he did so. Again, it is ALL about the ratings. So irresponsible. I too will send an email. |

I also sent in a plea. I hate to think about what this could do to all of us if it airs.

UGH! I hate the stigma that the media loves to attach to adoptions (and adopted kiddos) as the black sheep of the world... this only reinforces that. I truly hope that the network realizes the impact it could have if viewed in Russia...

I also sent them and e-mail, and I fwd the link to all of my family and friends and urged them to do the same. This was on another chat board, so I am hoping ABC gets a HUGE response of e-mails before the show airs and thinks twice about airing it. I can alway dream. I am glad we are all so supportive hear.
