We think we will meet with the mother.
We are still waiting on some info, we do not want to use an agency due to their fees, it would be less expensive to do a private adoption.
We also want to feel out the mother and see if we can tell that she really wants to give the baby up. In PA birthparents can take the child back up to six months after putting the child up for adoption. After meeting with her, we will make the decision, this is just such short notice and is kind of vague at this time. Just to lighten the mood, I have never really thought about girls names that much since I was sure we were getting a boy, which of course we did. My dh wants to name her Georgia if all goes well. What do you all think of that name, I am not sure if I like it or not. Vicki

Wow, what an opportunity! I hope things go well when you meet her. Its funny how things just land in our laps out of nowhere, it is definitely God's plan!
I like the name Georgia, although you have to give us more choices than just one. We won't hold you to that list until you decide for sure though! You sure have a lot to think about!! Hows the blog going? Have you had any other problems w/ comments? I hope not.

Hi Vicki-I'm excited for you, but I'm going to have 4 grandsons soon and just little Helena.
Georgia is my confirmation name, but I've never been too wild about it. Keep working on the list, although I do like Reese.

Vicki,
Georgia is a very pretty name. Having said that, though, please be careful about getting your hopes up. I say this from experience; DH and I were involved in a private, domestic adoption with a birthmother who was drug addicted and had placed her first two children for adoption. So we were sure, positive she wouldn't change her mind. Four weeks before her due date, she broke our hearts with one phone call. The nursery was ready, the closet full of clothes, his name chosen..... So please take this advice in the spirit in which it is intended, and try to keep a tight lid on your hopes, dreams, and emotions. I am not trying to dampen your spirits, just trying to pass on some hard-earned knowledge. I hope and pray everything works out for you.

Keep us posted, but I agree with Lisa, try to stay as removed from it as you possibly can. Easier said than done I'm sure

This is very exciting! And I definitely agree with the last two posts about trying to stay emotionally removed...even though I'm sure that would be pretty impossible as time goes on. Good luck!
And I really like the name Reese for a girl.

Vicki,
You need to confirm your information about the six month revocation period with an attorney, fast. According to all of the research I've done, there is only a 30 day revocation period in PA. Its important to be fully informed of the laws and statutes in your state regarding Termination and Revocation - its the only way you can make a sound decision for your family.

Also remember, in domestic adoption, the decision to place cant be fully made until after the baby is born. A woman may seem fully intent on placing, then decide, after seeing her child, that she cant go thru with it. On the other end of the spectrum, a woman could be wavering right up to the point that she leaves the hospital, then decide that she wants to proceed with an adoption plan.
Domestic adoption is vastly different in this regards – as long as you remember that she cant fully make her decision to place until the baby is in her arms, you’ll be fine…expecting anything less than that may be setting yourself up for a great deal of heartache.

Brandy's correct, it's a 30-day revocation period from when the TPR is signed, in PA. Used to be 90 days, but they shortened it a couple years ago.
