Our referral is 19 lbs at 9 months. We were really pleasantly surprised. He was 8 1/2 pounds at birth, quite a chunker in Russia.

I was also very scared about the medical information on Colin. He looked so perfect in the video, really chubby. But he seemed very underweight on paper (18.5 lbs at 17 months). When we asked the doctor about his low weight, he explained it with the lack of muscle tone. He said that he has only fat because he hardly moved in the orphanage. And fat does not weigh much. It made perfect sense to us. He weighed 24 lbs. at the last check-up (19 months). Suddenly, he is up there in the charts.
By the way, the orphanage gave also completely wrong measurements for his head circumference. I really learned not to trust the medical information provided. If you have a video, look at it carefully! I think it gives much more information.

Hunter was 15.5 lbs. when we got him home at 13 months. Considering the situation in some orphanages, I'd say that little guy is doing okay.

Our ped's thoughts....
Our son, at 5 months, was 14 lbs but by the time we got to Gotcha Day at 7.5 months he was only ~17 lbs.
Our ped was not concerned and actually warned us at referral that this would happen. Their theory is that as babies they get pretty good nutrition but when they should start getting more 'table food' at 6-7 months that's when they start falling down the growth charts because they don't get the nutrition they need to sustain as quick of growth. I would never have come up with this but it does make sense. Every child is different but thought I would share. I love our peds...they are so knowledgable with internationally adopted children and it helped that they didn't compare our son to US borns in terms of size and development. We really got lucky with these guys.

thanks again!!!
Once again thanks guys, you all have been wonderful.
We accepted this little guy the moment we saw him. It amazes me how that works but he had us with one little look and I didn't care how much he weighed. I do worry about him being so tiny but you have helped in knowing that this is a 'normal' tiny. The other couple that was with us, their baby, same age, weighted in at 18 lbs and gained 2 in the last 7 weeks so I was concerned. Maybe Max is going to be smaller....his bmom was 5'2 (same as me) and dad was 5'7. So I guess this is okay. I am feeling better and I know he probably isn't going to gain much in the orphanage. I hope we get our court date soon!

Gavin was 14# at 13 months old when we received our referral. When he was weighed at 15 months (at the Dr visit in Moscow on our wonderful way home) he weighed in at 17#. He was tiny and underweight. We've had him a little over a year now and he eats like a horse, but is still smaller than average...just genetics I guess.
