BCIS (forgive me for venting!)
We have been waiting over 4 months for our I171H. Is this totally unreasonable? IMO, it's outrageous. Does anyone have info on where to call to get something going on it? I've talked to my US Senators office already. That didn't seem to do the trick.

I wrote our 2 sentators, the governor, and our local representative. In my letter I just talked about how detrimental it was for each day our children were in an orphanage and how shocked I was that our state was moving so slowly compared to other states. I don't know who did it, but 4 days after I sent out my email letters, our clearance came in the mail when it was supposed to take another 6-9 weeks. So sorry this is happening. What state are you from? You could even try writing the President or First Lady. At this point, I would try anything.

Try hunting down an employees name in the Orphans division - call them directly.

I called BCIS last week and was told that they could only request a status report on applications that were complete more than 30 days before the last date posted on the progress dates website for that particular office. Those dates were last posted for our office on July 19, and at that point they were working on June 2 applications. So they would only do an inquiry over an application that was complete before May 2.
It's frustrating enough for us, and our application hasn't even been in for that long. You have my sympathies, pdz. I hope you find a way to speed it up soon. If your Senators don't help, try your local Congressman.

Thanks. I can't even send our dossier till I get this form, so nothing has gone to Russia, no referrals, etc. etc.. So I've had everything BUT the form ready to go for months and been in a "holding pattern".

What state/office? In John Macleans book, he has a lot of direct contacts listed, maybe you could use one of those?

I can give you a contact if it's Miami but it's almost certainly not, since we got ours in one week. Our office got an assistant!
Wouldn't your sw be able to help you? That is where I got my info. |

If you go to this site, and should be able to get the contact phone number for your state. I called when mine was overdue, and they found the paperwork and I got the approval the next day - literally!

You might also try your agency and see if they have a "contact". We had some issues with ours on our first adoption and they called someone, and we got our letter 3 days later.

Thanks again everyone. Our agency said they will not send the dossier to Russia till we have everything, including the I171H (don't know why?). Our congressman has already been involved and was told we would have it within a month (which has already passed).
Oddly enough, I expected this kind of thing when we started dealing with the Russian side of things, but not from the US Government.

Our agency also told us that our dossier wouldn't be considered "complete" until the 171-H was included - and my agency won't send incomplete dossiers to Russia.
We had a long wait, also...almost 3 months. We had everything else in order, and it was frustrating to wait for that last piece of paper to arrive. Good luck - hope it comes soon! |

Let me guess. Maybe you are using the Memphis Tn. office ? I think everyone in that office must be an alcoholic, or something. They are seriously stressing me out !

Not unusual unfortunately. Took over 4 months to get a response out of them for us (they needed more papers). 6 months all together.
