We have a travel date....
Well, yesterday my (not yet reaccredited) agency called me and asked if I wanted to travel blind for one of my referrals (the other one I have had since April). Well, of course I do. Today I have been given a travel itinerary. We have to be in RU on the 14th of this month.
FINALLY!!!!!!Should I be worried that they aren't re-accredited yet? (they are among the -one signature left-group) And why all-of-the-sudden can they offer a blind referral when they haven't had squat for months? My case worker seemed almost as confused as me when the RU offered this. Do they know something? Am I looking going thru life with blinders on by going to RU when they aren't reaccredited yet? I'M SO CONFUSED (But packing furiously) Please offer advice/comfort/words of wisdom......... |

I think that I would ask your agency if they have been issued any court dates without accreditation. I would hate for you to get over there and then be caught between trips because of the accreditation issues.
On the other hand, you would be ahead of the game by having the first trip behind you.

I can understand your apprehension. What a bummer to have this time to anticipation and excitement clouded with doubt.
I'm not sure how to advise. There just is no rhyme or reason to anything in Russia right now. I wish you all the best! Keep us posted!

Congratulations.
If it makes you feel any better, we got our referral while our agency was still accredited, but we got a court date and completed our adoption after their accrediation ran out. They simply completed our adoption as independent. You may want to ask your agency about this possibility.

As of July 29th, the independent route will not work. My agency tried it. The general prosecuter of Russia issued a letter that said no adoption can be completed by anyone except an accredited agency.
But.......... because we already have the paperwork done, and the first trip completed, we are going to be able to be over there and in court as SOON as the agency receives the letter of accredidation. My instinct is........ GO GO GO! We are all hoping for the accredidation to happen this month. The fact that you got a referral tells me that Russia is expecting this too! Congrats!

I would not be all that concerned really. Get those doubts out of your mind. Things will work out for you just fine.
There are a lot of folks in your shoes. Your agency is probably working through another anency who is still waiting for re-accreditation (which is not unusual). I would bet that the agency is probably directing your adoption efforts via the independant route. There is a huge misconception out there right now about RU not allowing any more independant adoptions. This is absolutely not true. We are taking the independant route through our agency and have just completed our first trip. Things are going off quite well and without a hitch. Beleive me. Your agency has a counter part is RU and they know exactly what they are doing. We don't quite understand and there is a reason for it. There are loop holes all over the place and the agencies have to find them to stay one step ahead of all the malcontents in RU looking to put an end to foreign adoptions. They agencies don't always share their methodology and you can't really blame them considering all that is going on over there. It keeps us adoptive parents quite frustrated and in the dark but in the long run it's a blessing in disguise. What most people don't understand is that they are considering "proposing" legislation to stop independent adoption in Russia. This law is not yet in effect and the proposal will meet with a lot of opposition when it is submitted. That's going to take time. Your kid will be home by then and you'll probably be think about another adoption. |

Go on your journey, meet the kiddos, and enjoy your trip! It's progress and you'll be that further along once the powers that be finally decide to sign off on the accreditation forms.

I ditto Mike's post - go and meet your child and hopefully in the meantime the accreditation happens and you will be that much closer to getting a court date. I would in the meantime try and find out how the region you are going to has been handling working with agencies that haven't been reaccreditited. Happy packing!
