Our first embarrasing experience was on the flight home from Russia. We were in the center of the plane on a row of five seats. Our two-year old at the time had just been given a swig of water out of a water bottle. I don't know if he got too much water or if it wasn't the right temperature. Whatever the problem, he decided this water wasn't acceptable and quite promply spit this water and connected with about five passengers in front of us.

We were at the mall with our then 2 yo munchkin, who generally loves shopping and is good normally as good as gold - kept pulling clothes of the rack. I told her to stop touching the clothes or she was going in time out. She promptly went to a rack and pushed a rack of clothes over (how she knew she'd be able to get it to go over is beyond me). after the time out (when saleslady and I picked up rack and clothes), she held me hand and we walked through the store with her just yelling at the top of her lungs. People were popping out of the aisles and stores to see what was going on and one lady said to me - Wow I thought you were beating her

My aunt still talks about the time that her middle son (now in his 30s) shouted loudly in a card shop: "Don't hit me, Mommy. Please don't hit me again, Mommy. I'll be good, Mommy."
She'd never spanked him and was mortified.

Too funny, Spaypets! I pulled one like that on my mom when I was 6 - in a restaurant and I told our waitress to please bring my food fast because my mom never gives me enough food (I was in fact a very picky eater and my mom was always worried I wasn't eating enough). I believe in karma now, though. A couple of weeks ago our DD told her teacher that I don't give her enough food (after two weeks of her protests that I was packing too much food in her lunch).

This was just yesterday. Our son is learning english, and songs. We are in Trader Joes, a small style grocery store. Our area has a lot of retired people, so you can picture the atmosphere, upscale ladies and their husbands shopping for whatever.
I had whispered to our son, this was a different kind of store, so he needed to speak softer. He broke out into Jesus Loves Me. Of course we are in the cheeses and out in the open. One person gave me a bit of a smile, but two people, you would think they had never heard a child before. I started to hush him, then asked myself what was I thinking? I let him sing the whole song, red as can be! One girl who worked there gave him a protein bar, he loves them, and it was very sweet. But sometimes I think people look at us like I have a crazy son!

when stephen was little, i was divorced from his dad. he hadn't seen his dad in a long time. he was about 3. we went to the store. he looked at a guy and said, "are you my dad?"
when james went to a recent birthday party - laser tag - he joyfully ran out when it was over, looked back at the hostess and yelled, "don't we get treat bags?" |

Not quite a full fledged parent yet, but this past Halloween I took my twin niece and nephew trick or treating. They are 7. My nephew runs back from a house [with the lady still standing outside] and yells to us that the house wasn't very good because they only gave one piece of candy!!
I reminded him that it didn't matter how much they gave and that they had to give to every child there [i live in a big neighborhood]. I also told him that he needs to say thank you and if he said that kind of thing again we were going home! It was funny though!!!

There are so many, where to begin....
my most embarassing moments have to have all occurred in church. Similar to Vicki's "burp" story, only from the other end, and loud enough that people four pew's up turned to look around! And speaking of PEW..... OMG! Then of course, there was his prayer, when I was enouraging him to tell God he was sorry for being naughty. He said, "like saying bad things", 'yes', and he says (nice and loud, of course, at the quietest point of meditation, of course) "LIKE ****?????" Not exactly embarassing, but certainly funny, was the fact that my poor 4 y.o.bio son has really had a lot to take in, with us miscarrying, going-to-adopt, and finally conceiving. Soon after we had to cancel the adoption (his "brother from Russia") and he was understanding that his brother was in mommy's tummy, Thomas pointed to my belly and said "is that Russia?" And, the all time favorite: We were teaching him to say basic phrases in Russian so he would be able to communicate with his new brother from Russia. He still asks sometimes, and just last month he asked me: "How does my brother say NYET?" ![]()

We just had one of those super moments!!!! Our just now 7 year old son is barely speaking english, but doing really well. One of our dogs is older, very much my dog, and a bit afraid of all the quick movements our son makes and will run from him. Not wanting to teach our son the word "crazy" yet, nor wanting him to feel bad, we have explained that the dog is "loopy". Just let him be, its the dog, he does not understand. It is cute, and our son likes to say the dogs name with "loopy behind it".
Has been working very well, until my mother-in-law told our son she could not "understand" him. He said, "grandmama loopy" a couple times to her cracking up. He had an idea what he was saying. She did not quite get it luckily, but as a daughter in law who sometimes has to put up with a few things, all I can say is "God is good!" ![]()

The other weekend we were at a fast food place that has the indoor playground. I have not let J into the playground in the past b/c I thought he was too small at 26 months. Well, as I was ordering his Uncle who was visting took him and his daugher in the playground. I stepped in to check on him and he was playing at the bottom of the slide. Not thinking really much of it. I few seconds later he was at the top of the slide! (it was one of those enclosed curly-que slides. I would have NEVER thought he would have crawled up there. I was so very proud of himself, waving and giggling. Then he would not come down the slide and was too short to go down the stair-like things. I had to crawl up into the contrapion and bring him down! This is one of those playgrounds that has the glass wall so EVERYONE could see the shannagans that was taking place.

Couldn't resist...
Okay... I'm reading this at work and fearing for my firing, as I have laughed out loud a couple of times...
Here's my contribution... My (former) fd was not-quite 3 years old and quite bright and articulate - one night we were having company over for dinner and I had a wonderful smelling pork roast in the oven. "A" was obviously hungry (even though I had fed her a light snack earlier in expectation of a late supper) and kept asking when we would eat. I told her that when the guests arrived and the food was done, we would all sit down and eat together. The doorbell rings, and as I am greating my guests (thank goodness they were old friends back in town for a few days), "A" runs up to them and as she is introduced says "I'm glad you're here... now we can eat!" Of course, I was slightly embarrassed (didn't want guests to think they kept us waiting or anything), so I told her "No, honey, you know we can't eat until it goes 'ding'." (I use a timer regularly and she was used to the sound signalling food). So she gives me this little grin and goes "DING" in a loud voice. My friends are getting quite a chuckle out of this, mind you... I tell her again, "no, silly, it has to go 'ding' in the kitchen". Well, wouldn't you know it, with the simplistic view of a 3-yr old, she runs into the kitchen and hollers at the top of her voice "DING - now let's eat!" To this day, my friend will call me up and ask if "dinner's dinged yet?" Not too embarassing, just cute... ![]()
