I just want to say please don't show pictures of their new "home" until after you have definitely decided to adopt. If you are planning on talking to an IA doctor after the first day you meet the child, then save photos for the second day. Just be sure when you say you will be mama and poppa you really mean it!
As for orphanage gifts, we found the orphanage was very grateful for the Russian Disney story books we brought (you can buy them there) with hard covers, so the staff could read the stories to the children. It was a poor orphanage and they really needed picture books to read to the children - the same type of things you would read to your own except in Russian.
