Russian Adoption Stories on Discovery Health
I apologize if this has already been posted--I just received a newsletter from one of the agencies I am considering and it mentions a 1 hour broadcast on June 16th on the Discovery Health channel where a camera crew follows two families through their Russia visits to pick up their new children. I'm sure it will be very interesting--especially for those of us who are new to the whole process.

Thanks for the tip! What time is that show on? I think it's during the day, but I'll be on summer vacation by then.

That is good to hear there will be some factual information out there about the process. I was watching a rerun of Law and Order Last night that involved a little girl who died after being adopted from Russia. There was so much stuff on there that was obviously just made up, there was an older boy who had "attachment disorder", but acted like the girl off the exorcist. It was said that the sick children should be given to the foreigners because Russians will adopt the healthy children. I could just go on and on, do these people not have to do any research before they put this stuff out there?

Airing Time
The newletter said it would be on at 8pm ET. Of course, airing schedules can change, so be sure to check your local listings.
I agree with you, skling69. I think the whole process has been grossly misrepresented by the media (both fictional shows and our so called news media.) Both tend to lock on to one or two occurrences of negative things and try to say that all adoptions are like that. Jeana |

There is a series "Adoption Stories" which aires on one of the Discovery Channels several times each week. It isn't always about international adoption, but I am hooked! Too bad my 40+ hour/week job gets in the way of my viewing pleasures.

Yes, on Discovery Health Channel, the have Adoption Stories. It's a half hour show that usually runs from 11:00am to 12:00pm each weekday (2 episodes). They've done a number of shows about Russian adoptions, as well as other international and domestic adoption stories. I've been watching it for a couple of years, since we decided to consider adoption. Very good program, except that it sugar coats the whole process and makes it seem like it's very quick. They don't go into the paperwork and expense details, just a sweet show about a family coming together.

I too have been hooked on "Adoption Stories" on Discovery Health Channel for about 2 years (I even make my DH watch it, very sweet!). They also pick 2 previous weeks episodes to rerun on Sunday mornings (8:00 to 9:00 am EST) for those of you that miss the ones during the week. I agree with Kim that they sugarcoat the process but I guess when the show is only 1/2 hour for each episode they want you to see the end result more than anything, still a good show!

This One is a Special Documentary
The show I mentioned is actually a special documentary--not part of the Adoption Stories series. Here's the article I found on it:
