health issues

Did anyone who has adopted from Russia have any health issues with their children after adoption? What health tests did your children undergo? Did you have someone from your agency look over the medical records?

Most people, if they so desire, will use an IA doc (a pediatrician specializing in International adoption) to review the child's records and request additional testing if necessary. From what I understand most IA docs will work with quick turnaround times and you can fax/email them while you are in Russia.

Our agency tests for HIV, Hep B and C, Syphilis and TB. They also arrange for the child to be brought to the Euromed clinic (westerna clinic in St. Petersburg) to be seen by a physician who will do a developmental and physical exam and we get that report as well.

Hope that helps-

Yes we had several Drs review their medicals.

All the same tests were done again, because the medicals can't always be trusted. All tests came back negative or non - reactive.
The only test that came back positive was for TB, but not contagious and not from the test TB shot. He was actually exposed. X-rays came back normal/negative, so he is on medicine for 9 mo.

My daughter came home with giardia (sp?) an intestinal parisite that cleared up after a round of antibiotics. Her pediatritian ordered a number of tests--HIV, Hepatitis, TB etc--all were negative.
