Agency Information/New to Site
My husband and I are researching agencies, and I would appreciate any recommendations from all the "adoption veterans". We live in New Mexico, but it appears that location is generally not an issue.
Thanks! |

There is an excellent list of agencies at www.russianadoption.org.
Click on "the Big List." At the long list of agencies, you will also see a reference next to the name of the agency that tells you where the agency is located. When we started looking for an agency, we did our initial research on the Internet. We started with a list of about 20 agencies, then progressively narrowed the list down to just a handful. We asked them to send us information packets. Many followed up with phone calls, too. In the end, our decision was made after we contacted adoptive parents who used the agency and checked the agencies' BBB and financial reports. Also, get a representative from the agency on the phone: Ask questions...ask a lot of questions! Selecting just the right agency is a time-consuming and somewhat stressful process. Best of luck! Hi, I'm not a veteran, still very much in the process of our first adoption, but we are working with AAI (Adoptions and Aid Internation) and they have been absolutely wonderful. They have an office in Texas and in California. Here is the link to their web site if you want to check it out. info@russianadoption.com
We started with them in December and are currently ready to send our dossier in just waiting on INS approval.

we are researching agencies too and I wonder if anyone has comments on going with an agency that is 'all inclusive' for a lack of better words, than one that you that makes you pay for some of the services.

recommendations are key
Asking is great. I think also talking directly with the agency is invaluable. You get a feel for the way they handle things. You will spend much time on the phone with the staff---you will need to know about history with Russia and how they do things. Generally look for one not afraid or in avoidance of ANY question--personal or financial etc. They will know all about you!
Also, we used 3 agencies by the end of our journey. There are pros and cons. PM me if you need details.
