Question hyperexcitibility syndrome

We just received a referral and were informed that the child had hyperexcitibility syndrome.

Does anyone have any information on this?

Thank you.

Never heard of a syndrome, but I was just talking to a cousin who's a developmental psychologist, and she said that if a baby is hyperexcitable, it can be an indicator of problems such as FAS, drug use during pregnancy, or attachment problems.

It can also be just plain difficult to deal with.

But I would run the medical past an IA expert, if I were you.

Best wishes,

Xanny

Will actually had this on his medical report and to tell you the truth our IA doctor said that Hypoxic damage to the CNS and Hyperexcitability syndrome are "...these diagnoses are very frequently seen in Russian records and usually they cannot be confirmed uopn careful examination in the United States".

When we went to visit him....he was an absolute doll!!!

Not that you should take it lightly, but check with you IA doctor to have your own piece of mind.

Hope this helps,
Lisa

One of the things Baby Dumplin' was diagnosed with on her Russian medical was hyperexcitablilty syndrome. Our IA doc. and everywhere I read said this was a "standard" Russian diagnosis. She has been home for five months, and other than being a typical 15 month old "hurricane," there was nothing to this diagnosis.

Our IA doctor (and all the research I have done) indicate that this is one of those common Russian diagnosis's. Not to worry. It is on many Russian medicals. Of course, be sure to check with your IA doc.
Take care,
Cristel

hyperexcitability syndrome

Our son had that listed on his medical records too, but he seems to be fine. I was reading John MacLean's book the other night about Russian adoption and he mentioned hyperexcitability syndrome as being standard on Russian medicals just like perinatal encephalopathy (sp?).

My personal thoughts are he is a boy with a lot of energy!

Good Luck!

We had the perinatal encephalopathy also. They also said the Dumplin' had myopia.

Another thought, may be off the wall here, but I'll take that chance! If the child is hyper/highly active and has bright red, hot cheeks or facial features (ears, neck, etc.) it may be a reaction to food. Our Bio. son gets "cherub cheeks" and is WILD when he eats wheat or processed meats, and I have heard this is a common combination of symptoms to these two foods (milk protein caesin is another common culprit). When these are avoided he has a much longer attention span and normal coloring. Just a thought....
