Starting the Russia Process

We are from Nebraska, just starting the Russia process. We're sending to I-600A off this week and have final homestudy visit next week. We considered Ukraine, but got cold feet after hearing a few hair raising tales... We will probably use Adoption Links Worldwide for our agency because they have an office in Nebraska. We also liked the info we got from Elina Adoption in Georgia, and Adoption Miracle in Minnestoa. Any info or feedback would be soooo welcome!

Welcome to our group! All of us remember those early days of making an agency decision... this is one of the toughest steps!

I wish I could give you feedback on your particular agencies, but they are not ones that we considered. There are many good out there and the important thing is to find one that you are comfortable with. Make sure you ask lots of questions and feel like you will trust them... we originally thought of going with an agency from NJ, but in the end realized that it didn't really matter what state the agency was located in...

Good luck on your journey!
Janie

Thanks for the welcome. Would you mind telling me which agency you all chose? I'm so afraid of getting bogged down in the process by choosing the wrong agency. It seems like the agency makes a huge impact on how the adoption progresses! We need to make a decision within a couple of weeks.

Very much like you...

It's remarkable how much my wife and I have in common with you! We, too, want to choose an agency within the next two weeks. We, also, considered Ukraine, but have opted to adopt from Russia. We've researched agencies and programs for the past five months. As you know, the more you research, the more confused you find yourself. However, in the end, I think we'll have to trust our best instrincts and choose the agency. We have Commonwealth and Genesis on our short list at this time.

We just started our home study. (We're delighted to have found a good social worker in our area with a lot of experience in international adoptions). We have been gathering documents, working on passports, and all of that good stuff, too. Quite frankly, it makes us feel that we're at least accomplishing something, even though we haven't signed with an agency.

I feel I have a lot in common with you, jsp1001; not only because of where we're both at in the adoption journey, but also because I'm originally from Nebraska. (We live in Iowa, now).

Best wishes.

We are using EAC for our agency and there are several on this list who are also using them.

Kryslm- welcome to our group

Welcome!!

Welcome to the group!! I too, don't know about the agencies you listed, but I wanted to welcome you to the group. I am working with Wide Horizons for children, Inc. in MA, I live in NY. We also began our process focused on the Ukraine, and after further investigation, decided on Russia. Good Luck!!
