Let's talk baby rooms
Okay, let's talk baby rooms. We did a month or two ago. But I'm sure we've gotten farther along. And those just starting I would love to hear your ideas.
For those who don't know. We are adopting a boy and girl one under 12 months and one under 24 months. I was told most likely our boy would be younger. So... We are doing baby boys room in Peter Rabbit. We have the whole ensemble it is just so sweet. A friend of mine gave it to us. Which is great so now we can focus on the painting and furnishing. The room will be a pale blue, his crib is a dark oak (really pretty). As for "little Miss Russia", I am stuck. We have her crib. It is so beautiful. It's a light oak, sleigh style. But I'm having a hard time deciding on the bedding. Her room is already a beautiful lilac color, there is alot I could do with that. But I've found this really adorable lady bug set it is so cute, very bright red w/ black, green, and white as accents. We will probably go with that. So I will definately want to change the wall color. But what color? I was also wondering if anyone would mind sharing pics of their rooms. And may I be so bold as to ask to see pics of the children that have come home. If you do share your pics, start it on a new thread then as our children come home or our referrals come in we can continue on the same thread. I think this is what the Guatamalen group has done and I just think it would be a great source of encouragment and support for eachother. Can't wait to hear your ideas! oooh, can i join in?
the room is finished!
the walls are a chocolate-mint-chip-ice-cream color. The lower 2/3's is a medium light shade, the top 1/3 is medium, and the ceiling is light. separating the top and bottom of the walls is a 'crown moulding.' i nailed a piece of brick moulding to a piece of baseboard. it makes a 2 1/2" shelf around the perimeter of the room. The crown moulding is the darkest shade. i put all sorts of cute artsy stuff on the shelf. i had had an older bureau with a big mirror painted white a while ago. i painted the frame of the mirror purple, and painted parts of the drawers pink, purple, & yellow. i also painted a night stand in these colors, plus blue. painting the furniture was VERY tedious! the rugs are two small square rugs that have all of the colors in big squares. around the base of the crown moulding i stencilled a white scallop. the valence for the windows (which take up a whole wall) will have a scallop too, at the same height as the wall scallop. the valence is white with bright squares of cute animals. i ordered switch plate covers, ceiling fan pulls, and drawer pulls for the bureau from a really great online site - judes stuff . they're white with bright polka dots. my mom is making the sheets, crib skirt, and bumper pads and of a really pretty batik that has all of the colors. it looks GREAT! i can't even begin to tell you how much work this was (and i'm not the one doing the sewing)! i'd never attempted any project of this magnitude! if i could figure out how to use my new digital camera i'd post pictures.

p.s, tamara
your rooms sound really cute! i'm glad i didn't have to do TWO! i'd have needed serious therapy!
(painting is NOT my forte!) i painted the walls before i attached the crown mouldings. well, when they were nailed to the walls, ALL of the nails in the studs popped out all over the room. i had to use a special tool to get the nails back in, spackle, and REPAINT the ENTIRE room! (so it has three coats). i think it would be great if you all could post pics of your kids after they got home!

Lauren Eliana's room has pale yellow walls and the crib set is pastel purple, blue, pink and green gingham squares with puffy flowers (in coordinating polkadot prints) on them. It's kind of country looking, but no particular theme, other than pastels and gingham which worked well, as everything goes with it. The crib quilt is on the wall, with blue and pink gingham ribbons tied into a bow and it looks like it's holding the quilt up.
I painted an old dresser white, then purple on the drawer, then crackled white over the top of the purple. Everyone loves the dresser! I attached a white mirror with a shelf over the top of the dresser. I had a bookcase built in, and a high shelf along the entire back wall made, which I love. I have her Russian doll collection on there as well as stuffed animals and other cutesy stuff. I also had shelves built into the closet on both sides. That is wonderful for storage. My baby bed is a white sleigh bed and it's beautiful. I recovered my great grandmothers low, padded rocking chair and ottoman in coordinating green with pink and purple flowers. I also have a futon in the room with a coordinating country quilt on it. Everything is pretty crowded, but the crib will probably go to our room, at least for a while. I would love to send pictures, but probably need a class to figure out how. Also need the digital camera, which I guess we must break down and buy. We just bought a new 35 mm camera. Shoshana: Your baby is gorgeous. I'm so happy for both you and her. She is a lucky girl!!!!!! Please post pictures of your babies everyone! Jenny |

Pottery Barn NUT
I hope Jake loves Pottery Barn Kids. I know I do I do!
We painted the walls cucomber (sp) green (very pale) and are in the process of hand waxing the hard wood floors so they shine. We have a red area carpet for the center of the room and will leave the rest exposed wood. My best friend gave me her new cherry sleigh bed that her daughter used maybe once and my mom bought the matching dresser today for me- now hubby needs to get home to put it together LOL All of the bedding is from Pottery Barn Kids- Velour Animals. We have it all- matching curtains- baskets LOL I did not go for the rug- thought it might be too much animals LOL Once the room is done- MUST be done this week we are running out out time as our plane leaves in 7 days and counting I hope to take some photos for our album and I will post one ![]()

Polar Bears and Penguins
I had to go pink with Caroline's room. The walls are pink and the carpet is raspberry. The crib and dresser are white.
I had an artist do a mural on one wall with penguins and polar bears looking over a beautiful setting sun, making the sky pink, and purple. I found a polar bear sitting on a pink moon and puffy stars, that are hung over the crib. The bedding is pink on pink with stars, suns and moons. I am really happy with it. I have added some white shadow boxes - one filled with different angels and one with a set of stacking dolls. I still need to add one more shelf to display dolls and animals and books that need to be saved for a later date. I will post some pictures tomorrow. They aren't great, but I think that they will give the image. It is fun to see her playing in the room. She actually points to the characters on her walls and the hangings. She really likes the angels and riding on her rocking horse. So I guess it passed the test - even without the final shelf up! Enjoy the decorating. One nursery sounds more beautiful than the next!

Wow your nurseries sound adorable. Gee I was excited about having cribs. You all are much farther along. Ofcourse you have babies home, and on the way Sooon! Good luck Schroeder!
Schroeder: I am a pottery barn fan also. You can not go wrong with any of it. Your crib sounds beautiful. We still need dressers. I'll mention it to grandma. Jenny: after hearing about your room I'm not sure on the lady bugs. I love that kind of "french country" look with the crackel wood and all that. Aagh! This is so hard. But so fun. Shoshana: Your room sounds so fun! Your little one will love it. We pray she is home soon. Waitinginnj: How unique. Sounds like little Caroline can be in her own little fairy tale when she's playing in her room. I will post pics as soon as my DH hooks up our scanner. No digital camera here either. Keep'em coming! I tried to attach pictures. Comes back too big, even if I do one at a time. Sorry.

If you are using the ladybug stuff I would think about light green walls or leaving them lavender. Light green with red looks cute! Also lavender with red accents looks very good - check out Pottery Barn - they've been using that combo lately. You could incorporate light green or lavender checked gingham here and there with some red plaids or polka dots. It sounds fun and most importantly, different!

Javalita,
Would you mind just coming over and doing this for me I love your ideas. My creativity comes in streaks, and not very often. I think I will start looking online again at some of the baby furniture stores. That seemed to help. Tamara |

Everyone's rooms sound so great! Waitinginnj, you and I have similar tastes! I'm going to do our baby's room in moons and stars, but in blues, greens and yellows since we don't know if it will be a boy or girl. I found a cute Boyd's Bears rug with a bear sleeping on a crescent moon that has become my "inspiration piece". I'm going to paint one wall blue and then paint the same bear and moon on it surrounded by stars and clouds. I'm hoping to paint the other side of the room in a lighter blue with pink and lavender tinged clouds that will look like a sunrise. Then I'm going to paint the phrase "I love you to the moon and back" around the top of the room. We shall see...I'm far from a professional, but I figure it's worth a shot. There is already an oak bed and dresser in the room, so I'm trying to find a honey oak crib that will match. I found some fabulous Wendy Bellissimo bedding sets that I am in LOVE with, but can't afford, so my mom is going to help me create something similar. I want to incorporate the moon, stars and clouds in the bedding, too. I'm so excited! We just started the adoption process and are having our last homestudy visit tomorrow, so I hope that if I start now, I might have the room done by the time the baby gets here!

Go Girls!! That all sounds great! I am not in the same situation...I have 2 bio children and I am bringing our new son into our older (6yrs) son's room. We did just re-paint...we have a solar system theme. Planets and stars curtains--deep blue walls. And hopefully this week, a dark blue ceiling and glow in the dark stars... eventually bunk beds for the boys too

What wonderful sounding, precious nurseries! I have enjoyed reading about all of them... wish I could see pictures!!!
We haven't even started to decorate or buy anything yet. My dh is wants to wait until we have the referral... and although I am eager to get started, I have agreed to wait. We put down on our application that we did not have a gender preference and so it is hard to start decorating as we don't know for sure what our baby will be (we want it to be a surprise). I have all sorts of plans, however, and will let everyone know what we end up doing when we start to decorate!

Tamara,
A friend of mine also just did her baby room...sounds weird, but walls are an orange color and then she used a light green and light/med. blue accents. She had mentioned to me that her husb. wanted orange walls...tough one! Then I recd a wedding shower announcement and sure enough it was in those sherbet colors - orange, blue, green. She says it looks so good and she used the card as her color scheme. So...long story short - look around at cards!

I have finally found the linens that we will buy for the nursery! I have been looking for months for something that I like...
If our referral is a boy (as we suspect it will be since we did not specify gender) then we will get the Zooming Along set by KidsLine: http://www.dreamtimebaby.com/zoomingalong.html In the event that it is a girl, it will be Dress Up by OshKoshB'Gosh http://www.dreamtimebaby.com/dressup.html I am not sure what we will do with the walls... but I think these sets are good starting points! Janie
