Children's Friend and Service

How long is the wait for replies from this agency these days. I have written for additional non-identifying info. trying to find my birthfather - my birthmother was deceased when I found in '89, don't have birthfather's name or much non-identifying to go on. I am getting impatient since it has been a month and I haven't heard anything yet.

Info on Children's Friend & Svc

Hi,

I was also adopted through Children's Friend & Service and just recently recieved my non-identifying info from them. It took them 7 weeks to get in touch with me, and they now require that you sit with a councilor to receive your info. You can make an appt with them or at a local adoption agency of your choice and they will forward the info there. I have 2 contact names for Children's:
Deborah Soares (director) 401-331-2900 or fax 401-331-3285 or email her at dsoares@cfsri.org
My councilor, who was VERY helpful was Jud Lisiecka. His direct line is 401-276-4342.
Contact one of them. Let them know you've been waiting and ask if they could set up an appt with you to go over your info.
Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!
Also, did you contact RI Family Court for your records there??
Don't forget to ask for any foster care records they may be for you. CFS keeps their foster care info for 10 yrs, even though state law only requires 7 yrs.
Maria

Dear Maria, I just now read your post of November 7th! I don't know how I missed it before - I belong to too many boards I guess. Thanks for all the great advice! If we are lucky the house bill will pass today giving RI adoptees access to their original birth certificates!

I just read your post. I also was born and adopted in RI. Are we not on the **** end of the stick!! My adoption was through Childrens Friend and Service. I have gotten 2 different non-identifying info packages. I would not trust or pay for non-identifying info from the agency. DCYF has non- identifying info for free. I am now waiting to see what info they send. Also for $25 you can join the state registry and they will send you thier version. I am sorry if I sound less than hopefull but what a state to be adopted in. If by any chance you get somewhere please let me know. I think if we all stick together,we are stronger than this state. Here's the address for the woman at DCYF I mentioned Beverly Peservich
DCYF

I will let you know what info I get.In the meantime pray like crazy! I can be contacted at liadevaia7@yahoo.com. Please let me know, maybe we could exchange notes on this issue.Hope to hear from you Debbie
