Do yourself and the new Mother a favor and make sure she gets some quantity alone time even though they're wishing for you to do the care of the child. While I'm sure in her mind she wants you to bond (which is great!), she needs her time to come to a final decision and find that little bit of closure as she begins to say goodbye for the rest of her life... over and over. Be sure to communicate with the family and ask when they need some alone time. Your day is coming.

I tried to update about a week ago, but the site was being updated at the time and it didn't work. I'll do a quick summation:

I'll start off by saying she is such a joy and the sweetest baby!

On her second day we discovered a few congenative heart defects. She has been in the hospital since (as have we), had heart surgery last monday and is recovering very nicely. We hope to get her home maybe on Sunday, depending on when she can breath without the oxygen. All in all she is doing great, the big defect should be fixed, with a secondary valve issue that is a blessing we are aware of and can watch.

I am an adoptive mom as well as adoption professional. I've worked with several birthmoms who have breastfed to give the baby at least the initial colustrum. In each case, the bithmom went on to place the child for adoption, and there were no reports from the adoptive moms that there was any less bonding.
