open adoption laws
My husband and I know a couple who want us to adopt their baby due in November. Is the process the same as any other adoption? Do we need to have a homestudy?

Yes - it would most likely be treated as any other private adoption. The first thing you should do is consult an adoption attorney - one who specializes in adoption rather than a "generic" attorney. A good place to start looking for one is www.adoptionattorneys.org
which is the website for the American Academey of Adoption Attorneys. The attorney will tell you what all the appropriate steps are - the first will be to get a homestudy done as this can take a few months to get completed. It generally involves fingerprinting which can take a while to get the results back. Best of luck with your match! Sandy |
