Pact has an excellent website; they support open and transracial adoptions and also have lots of articles and essays on their website. They're address is www.pactadopt.org. There are lots of good books, but most that I've read are subjective, sharing a family's story, rather than statistics, etc. There was someone in this forum -- sorry, I don't remember where -- who quoted a study on the psychological effects of open adoption on older children. You could look through at the headings and try to find it.
Personally, I think open adoption is the way to go! My son will be 2 this May and we have an open adoption with his birthmother. It's not always easy, but I do feel, based on the reading I've done and common sense, that it will be better for him than a closed adoption psychologically and emotionally. He will always know who his family is and why he was adopted, and we hope we'll be able to stay in touch with his birthfamily. We're starting the process of adopting our second child and hope this will also be an open adoption. Hope this helps. |
