adoption of sisters 3 kids

Hi Im 24 years old and me and my husband live in california, we have had my sisters 3 kids for almost a year now we have a court date coming up in march the social worker called me and told me the adoption lady would be calling me sometime before the next court date my question is, do we have to have a homestudy before we go to court? and if so what goes on during the homestudy? i had the social worker come and check my house and our backgrounds before the kids were places with us any information would be great! thanks in advance for any advice you can offer

Hi Kelli -- we are in process of adopting our niece -- we had to do a home study for the guardianship, then another home study before the placement of adoption (this is in OH). We will have monthly home visits for 6 months. We had a stack of papers to fill out background checks, finger prints, family history for the placement. It is a lot of work, but worth it!
