Anyone in MA?? Have a question..
Hi, I've never posted here but thought someone may be in a similar circumstance...Basically in short, my dh and I have had our neice since 3 months old and she is now 2 years and 3 months old. DCF took her from her birthmom who is my dh's sister(drugs, alcohol abuse)..After 2 very long, stressful years birthmom signed her rights over b/c she knew she had no chance(many reasons) and bf was never involved and appeal went by for him....So in April, both bd and birthmom's rights terminated..All subsidy and adoption paperwork went to the court in late July...........................so how long does it take to get a court date!!! It's been about 4 weeks.....We just want closure and DCF just says it's up to how backed up the courts are?? Anyone have any input?? Thanks in advance....I'm sure I'll be posting more questions in the near future!!

Ugh! Depends on what county you are in. There is usually a push to finalize adoptions around National Adoption Day in November. Does your child have a CASA or attorney? They might be able to get things moving.

We just met with our SW to go over subsidy paperwork tonight so this is for Western MA.
All adoption petitions are being submitted at the end of September here-regardless of whether you plan to finalize on National Adoption Day or not. We were hoping to adopt before National Adoption Day but after talking tonight, we're going to request finalizing on National Adoption Day. We were told in our area, it's going to take minimum of 4-5 weeks before we find out (also considering our SW is taking a week off). Because of budget cuts and layoffs, everyone is stretched really thing. Our SW also told us that the paperwork that we have to sign to petition needs to go through him, supervisor, regional director first, then to a paralegal and then (if no typos or mistakes) to head of legal to go over. Our open adoption agreement was FULL of mistakes so I'm quite sure that there will be multiple revisions before it makes it to legal. and last of all, remember this is Taxachusetts! Everything takes longer than normal, lol.
