adopted grandson
My daughter gave birth 6 years ago when she was 17. When the baby was 2 1/2 months old, she decided she didn't want to be a mom anymore so she left and left the baby with me. I raised him without blinking an eye. I never tried for custody or even child support. When the child was 3 years old, I legally adopted him and he became my son. Now, 3 years later my daughter is married, has a 3 year old daughter and wants her son back. In August 2008 she went into court with an emergency ex-parte motion for custody and won temporary custody. I have had very little visitation since then. This is a big mess between me and my whole family, sisters, brothers and my parents. We have not spoken since August. I go back to court in May for the final hearing in this case. None of the allegations have been proven against me, they were all bogus. My attorney is working hard on this saying they have the burden of proof. Of course my daughter has her attorney then there is the guardian ad litum for the son. Has anyone else gone through this? I live in the state of Alabama and no one I have talked to has ever heard of this.

I'm so sorry that you are going through this. How tragic for you, your son, your entire family.
No words of wisdom or advice. Just wanted to lend some support.

You mentioned that there is a guardian ad litem assigned - I would definitely contact them. In my experience, this person can be a great advocate for the child. Let them hear your side of the story as soon as possible before hearings or anything else begin. Good luck to you.

If he was legally adopted by you how can she get temporary custody- the courts haven't accepted the adoption papers as proof that he is your son?
