Can a fiance adopt a child?
My daughter's fiance (they haven't set a firm wedding date yet) wants to adopt her daughter. He is not the natural father and the natural father is not on the birth certificate nor has he shown any interest, emotional or financial in the child. The fiance was there prior to birth, during birth and has supported his child (in his eyes, this is his baby and his family has also viewed the child as a member of their family). This is the only father she has known and he wants to adopt her. My daughter has asked if in Texas this can be done. She doesn't know where the bio father is. Can this be done?
Can he adopt her if they are not married yet? They have lived together since before the baby was born and they plan to marry. |

It can be done, but she needs to go to a lawyer to work it all out. There are definitely legal issues involved. They would have to be married before he could adopt her. It doesn't sound like that will be a problem.
