do you think
you get less suporitt because you are adopting children or a child that is already related to you? I have noticed this it seems people are just not as excited for you. Even when I've posted here and on another board it seems in General people respond less to those that are adopting children that are related. I feel that it is just as important and just as exciting . We are still going to be new parents even if we are related to the children. It is still life changing and you are still going to be excited ( and sad for the relative that lost their child)
some that are adopting a relative child have lost family members during the process( ive lost a sister) so that is hard and it can be very stressful. I guess I am just nervous about court today and just wish others would be excited for me and Dh. It is not less important just because they are related to us.We are still becoming parents to the children and I wish others would see that ( friends ect) Maybe I am just to emoctional!! ![]() |

I completely understand where you're coming from! Even hubby isn't as excited as I'd hoped he'd be. It really stinks. Congrats for the court day though!! Is this for finalization?? Sorry, I'm new!
Funny thing, I remember when I adopted my daughter from Romania I barely received any cards & never got a baby shower. Granted she was 3yrs old at the time but still - you need a lot of equipment for a 3yr old!! However, these same friends & family didn't think twice about giving me a baby shower for our 2 bio-kids. Go fig. I think there's so much old stigma about adoption & the "second best" syndrome, most people have a hard time accepting it because they think in some way we had to "settle."

First of all I would like to say Congrats on your adoption! Regardless of whether the child/children are related or not should not impact someone's excitement for you. I'm sorry you have encountered that type reaction. We have adopted a relative as well and I have to say that it seems like the hardest type of adoption, emotionally. PM me if you ever need an ear! |

even though im on the other side of the relative adoption, im the bmom, my sister is the amom, she has said that she was turned away from an adoption support group because she didnt have a "normal" adoption. theres definatly less excitement and support for thoes in interfamily adoptions.
