I am brand new to the forum and am so thrilled to find so much great info on this website! I am requesting help from anyone who has filed a pro se adoption petition in Ohio and succeeded. My stepdaughter is pregnant and wants my husband (her dad) and I to adopt the baby girl. Both father and mother consent to the adoption. I think we are dealing with uncharted water as the social service agency that is been helping us doesn't seem to know what to do and several attorneys I have spoken with don't really know the specifics in grandparent adoption. I did find one attorney who specializes but we cannot afford him. So, I have been doing research myself and do have a legal background, so am hoping that this will go smoothly. Any thoughts and pointers would be appreciated!

I really have to caution you about doing a full adoption yourself…there are so many different things that must be addressed, usually attorneys who aren’t very familiar with adoptions wont even complete their own adoptions without the assistance from a family law attorney.
Call social services and ask them for the name of the attorney they use, they should be familiar with kinship adoptions in your state.
