Hello, I am new here and had a couple questions. I live in Illinois and I have a half sister who lives in California she is now 15 years old and has decided to come to live with my family and I after a few visits. Her parents have agreed that it would be a much better family and living environment for her. We have decided to wait until her school year is completed (May 2005) at which time she will also be 16 years old. My next step is to figure out how to go about this legally. Currently she is covered by her states medical insurance, neither of her parents works, so my husband and I felt it would be a good idea to either legally adopt her or gain guardianship. We do not know which would be best. We would definetly want to put her on our medical insurance and obviously be her legal gaurdians, but we have no idea how to begin this, and what options we ALL have.
If anyone could help out that would be awesome.
