Where do you get the forms to adopt your grandchild?
We have had our Granddaughter 16 mos. she will be 3 in June 04. She knows her mother and knows my husband and I as Papa & Grandma. We never hesitated in caring for and loving her when our daughter called us one night (drug addicted) and just said come get her. We dont have alot of extra cash and are unable to get a loan @ this time. My daughter is now drug free and has a "new" baby but treats our granddaughter like someone else's trouble child. Our granddaughter is old enough to recognize that she is not treated the same as the baby. Our daughter has just said adopt or she's taking her back for financial reasons. We don't know our rights. this child has suffered enough. I hope someone can direct us so that we may contnue to offer our granddaughter the safety, love, and happiness that she has come to depend on us for. Hope to hear from someone soon. |

Lisa---
Hope you have luck in finding a way to adopt your grandchild. I recently found a notation of forms to file for adoption on open adoptions.com or adoptions.com. I can't remember for sure which one. I haven't viewed them, but am considering doing so as we are much in the same situation as you. My husband and I have had his daughter's little girl since January of this year. She's 18 months old and the apple of both our eyes. She's adorable and doesn't deserve to be in any situation, but a loving, stable environment, which his daughter and her boyfriend don't seem to want to provide. She's 26 and he's 21. Not a good combination, in lieu of the fact that they neither have held a job more than 3-4 months for the past two years. We just want to make sure our granddaughter is not subject to an undesirable atmosphere. We don't have proof for now, but they have been involved with drugs in the past. We, like you are not in a position to hire an attorney and are not able to acquire a loan from a bank either. Hope this may help in some way. We are in Texas; if anyone knows a better way to go about this, please HELP. THanks and good luck to you. |

adoption papers
My heart goes out to both of you. We too have adopted our grandaughter. We have had her since birth and our adoption was final last month. It took almost two years for it to go through. We went to the court house and were given all the papers we needed to adopt Samantha. We were told there that they have free legal help in classes at the court house that will help you fill out the forms.
We however ended up selling our home to get the money to adopt Samantha with the help of an attorney. Try calling your city court house and ask them if they have the papers needed for the adoption. Hope this helps you out. I know that these beautiful children need us to care for them and love them. Samantha is our daughter now and I would never change a thing. Good Luck to you both.
