I am from the state of Washington. My husband and I are adopting our 2 year old grandson. He has been with us since birth. Our lawyer had us wait 2 years to formalize the adoption because the father won't sign papers to release him. He has never seen the child or spoken to him. Our lawyer sad we would show abandonment issues for the court and that they would probably legalize the adoption no problem. Now after 2 years our lawyer said the appalent court no longer uses the issue of abandonment from the biological parent, he has as many right as the adoptive parents! We start court next monday, any suggestions? My daughter is willing to sign papers since she knows the baby is in a good, steady home.
