Hi!
I'm very new to this and have lots of questions. My sister is pregnant and I have offered to adopt her baby. Can anyone give me some idea of how this kind of adoption would work in IL? Would I have to do the whole home study, social workers, etc. that I would do for a unrelated adoption? I just have no idea how it works. If you have any IL specific links you could point me to, it would be very helpful. Thank you!! |

Best suggestion I can give would be to contact an adoption lawyer.
You will have to meet all of the same requirments as a non-relative... The Adoption Center in Illinois says this about the kinds of adoption The Illinois resource page here at adoption.com can also point you in the right direction... There is also an adoption directory with information about local legal services and agnecies. Good luck with the adoption ![]()

Thank you very much for all the links! I spoke to an adoption attorney yesterday who said there is no home study/social work intervention in a relative adoption in IL. All that is involved is for the birth parents to sign over rights and the adoptive parents to show up to one hearing for the adoption legalities. Much easier than I had thought! Thanks again!!
