Who's my REAL mom? Gods Eye
After being in reunion for over 2 years, I have found myself in a most perplexing position.
I am of christian faith and explore my spirituality through scripture and moral guidance. But I have a problem..... When we are adopted, birthparents, either voluntarily or involuntarily relinquish us and adoptive parents take over. I realize this is a legal process and I am not talking about this on an emotional level. At that point, who is my mother and who is my father? Legally, the answer is clear. In my heart the answer is clear as well. But how does God view it? I find little in either the Old or New Testaments relating to adoption of this kind. But to put it in plainer terms, for example; if a-mom wants you to come for Christmas and b-mom wants you to come for Christmas, whom do I honor as I am obligated to do in the 5th Commandment? I guess that's as simple as I can make it. Biblically, mother is generally the one giving birth and raising you. But what if those roles are split between 2 women? Are they both equally moms? What makes my situation more complex is the following: B-mom relinquished me around 1 1/2-2 years old. A1-mom and a-dad adopt me. A1-mom dies (age 9). A-dad remarries. A2-mom adopts me (age 16). (I am now 44) So I have basically had a b-mom and 2 a-moms. I know how to BELIEVE, but what are the Christian/religious implications here? Can anyone help put it together for me with scripture references at all?
